Ive been using this pump for about a month and a half and I must say its much better than the filter pump that came with the pool. Setup was very easy following the instructions. The 14' pool I have did not allow the use of the larger inside connections that ship with this pump. I had to just pull out the outer pieces on the pool connections and then insert the adapters that are shipped with this pump.(You do not need to buy the adapters, they come with this pump) I was initially concerned with the connections leaking (Looked like they probably would), but they have not leaked a drop.
I will say that although the pump is much more powerful than the original pump, it still will not get all the very small stuff on the bottom of the pool as I had hoped. So I came up with a relatively cheap and simple solution. Using a small plunger end that fits almost exactly over the original inlet of the pool (purchased the plunger at the local grocery store) and a long hose purchased in the pool section @ wally world, I made a vacuum that works like a charm! I am really surprised at how well this works, the suction on the hose is very good. Just had to trim out the interior hole of the plunger and cut off the excess hose. In 10-15 min my pool is crystal clear! Also I found that you have to submerge the hose and ensure all air is out of it or you will cause the pump to stop pumping and have to get out and restart it. Also with regard to the pump not getting the stuff off the bottom, if the pool was used on a daily basis, (kept any debris stirred up) and the pump ran every day, it may very likely keep it cleaner than in my situation. I don't swim every day and I don't run the pump every day. Usually every two to three days.
After using the pump for a couple of weeks I started to notice the gauge was running in the yellow and that the suction was somewhat decreased. As per the instructions I opened the outlet cover, back-washed the pump for about 30 sec, rinsed it, and it was in the green again. Guess the pump sucked up enough debris that it need to be cleaned.
Don't know how helpful this review will be, but I must say that I am very satisfied with this pump and it has made my summer pool time much more enjoyable. This pump was well worth the money for me.
What you need to know is, the pump comes with the Hose Conversion Adapters kit for Intex 1500gph and 2500gph so there is no need to purchase one, the pump works great, it's easy to install, and the timer works great.
Good by paper filters. Hello clean pool.
Since it was the height of summer, and the water was going green FAST, we replaced it with another SFS1500. This replacement was used about two weeks before closing the pool when school started. We removed the replacement pump and stored it in the house until April 2014. The replacement SFS1500 died in April 2014, after less than a week of use. So, the total use on the replacement SFS1500 pump was about four to six weeks, but it wasn't covered because I had purchased it at the end of summer 2013.
DO NOT WASTE MONEY on the Polygroup/Summer Escapes SFS1500 pump. Summer Escapes has a nice pool, but their SFS1500 pump is garbage... "allegedly"... Sorry... I digress :)
We got this Intex sand filter/pump after viewing all the positive reviews on Amazon. I found a YouTube video on how to connect the Intex pump/filter to the Summer Escapes pool. Ours has the skimmer basket outside the pool, hanging on the sidewall. This combination has been very helpful and well worth the price. Our pool looks great and stays clean, clear, and refreshing.
The only thing I wish I could do is run some kind of bypass. After I Backwash and Rinse, when I turn the six-way valve on the filter back to Filter, it has a tendency to push gunky, greenish water back in the pool for the first 5-10 seconds. On a 6500-ish gallon pool it is not that big of a deal, but at the same time, I have been running the filter in order to get rid of this gunky water... I don't want to pump any back into the pool, even if it is only 5-10 seconds. :) lol
Sometimes, I close one plunger valve, disconnect the Out hose from the sand filter, and run the pump for 10-15 seconds to flush this water from the filter. Then I reconnect the hose from the filter to the plunger valve and open it before turning the pump and filter back on. I may buy one more of the Intex plunger valves and a hose, and try running a bypass, so I can drain that nasty water without disconnecting anything. Anyway, I'm very happy with this Intex sand filter system and Intex plunger valves on my Summer Escapes pool.
