I never particularly liked the blue color of the old pool and this new one looks much cleaner, a more sophisticated look if you will. Beyond that, it’s not a whole lot different; the frame is basically the same but seems a bit sturdier on the new prism, the pump is just like my old one and even uses the same Type A cartridges so I can keep the extras I had from that pool (neato!). I did notice that the filter has some new feature going on with it, called “hydro aeration” that the box talks about. I’m not sure what exactly “negative ions” are, but I can see the pump working, there are bubbles coming out of the inlet, and the pool seems fresher so I’ll call that a win. I’m actually thinking about upgrading to one of the Sand Filters that Intex makes because my neighbor mentioned that his has a timer you can set so that it runs automatically, plus you don’t have to change the filter cartridges. I assume a sand filter will work with this pool since it has the same fittings as were on the other Intex pools I’ve owned in the past. Maybe I will once I use up all my leftover filter cartridges.
Set up was pretty easy, but like I said, I’m replacing another Intex pool so I’ve done this a few times before. Just make sure the ground is flat and level, lay it out, add the frame, spread so there aren’t any creases and start filling. Takes a little while to fill, I usually get two garden hoses running, tie them off to the side of the pool and let them go for a good chunk of the day, checking on them periodically while I get chores done.
One thing that is kind of a hassle is that Intex doesn’t include chemicals with their pools, but I understand this to some extent, even the pool store makes me bring in a water sample sometimes. I guess it depends on your water but I feel like there should still be a “starter pack” or something that would work for anyone.
Our old Intex pools have each lasted multiple years of being set up for the summer and taken down once it’s over, I expect this one to do just as well, if not better, but I will update the review if there are any issues.
Overall, this thing is great for a temporary pool. I’ve never wanted to put in an in-ground pool but it’s still so nice having your own little pool in the backyard for those hot summer days. Definitely a must-have item for the coming months.
