Authors did a great job of overcoming the obstacles for James & Ivy's HEA.
Part of this story runs in parallel with Compass Boys Book 1 - so we get to seem more of Jake.
The story moved at a good pace. James and Ivy are great together. I loved going back to the ranch, though I wished it was for better circumstances. And Doug was adorable. I can't wait for his book.
As a smokejumper, James (who goes by Jamie 6 months out of the year) finds a part of himself that he never was able to tap into back on the ranch. Saving lives and making a difference fills a need that satisfies the hunger and settles James like he never was able experience working with horses on a day to day basis. It's a perfect blend for James, the duality that he needs in his life. Six months out of the year he spends saving lives and six months out of the year he helps his dad raising horses. He has the perfect life and couldn't ask for anything more, that was until he met Ivy.
Ivy Wagner dreams of being a large animal veterinarian, yet she is currently working in a small animal clinic so she can be close to her father. She is all he has left, well her and his job. He manages the West Yellowstone smokejumpers team, and aside from his favorite employee, Jamie, that he raves about all the time, she is sure he would be lost without her.
Ivy has yet to meet Jamie since she's been away at school earning her veterinary degree, and he even though he sounds like Superman according to her father's stories, she has vowed never to date a smokejumper. So surprise to her, when Ivy meets James Compton for the first time, a legend upon his own right living upon a thriving ranch with the very stock of horses she dreams of working on, Ivy's starstruck fascination doesn't last long when she discovers that James Compton is the Superhero himself-Jamie.
Ivy sticks firm in her no dating rule no matter how hard James keeps up his front to win her over. He is a Compton after all and completely fascinated with her. Their chemistry is off the charts and the Compton humor is ever present, especially when the Compton boys or entire family gets together. Ivy and James try to keep things casual, while their feelings grow stronger and stronger. How can they continue as friends when they both want so much more, but they both have hurdles in their lives standing in their way making a relationship seem impossible. Will they combust into flames or will they douse the fire?
If you haven't read the rest of the Compton series I would suggest you do so only because the series is a fantastic, delicious read. I've been a Mari Carr and Jayne Rylon fan for years and the Compton family is in my top favorite. You can read Into the Fire as a standalone, but once you do you will want to pick up the rest of the series.
