I would recommend the book for any age and am sure it would make a nice bedtime storybook to read to kids. I just have to read the next book and am looking forward to it.
The characters are lovable and hatable--from Colleen to Mable--they fit the description of the have nots and the haves who are so greedy they are willing to do anything to satisfy their greed.
I loved the inference to Christianity throughout within and without the sequence of events and rallied around Colleen's family at every turn.
I also could not miss the inference regarding other fairy tales and I think the author managed to include them all--especially the subtle reference to Sleeping beauty. At any rate, the goblins, the gnomes, the leprechauns, fairies and elves kept my imagination honed for the next reveal and of course the goblins and witches and magic everywhere.
There are a few proofreading issues, but they are not so many that they distract. I think behind the attempts to capture the Irish brogue and the English along with the language of the magical lands, the author may have stopped proofreading, but the tale is one that will live in the mind of the readers for a very long time.
I eagerly anticipate the author's ability to maintain an interest and the development of his characters in other books. Way to go!
