I suppose that shows how emotionally invested I am, though. The only other issue that I've had with the book is that it can be a bit confusing at first until you get used to the way the POV changes. It should really be split up in chapters when it goes from Olivia to Ethan, but it's easy to get used to. It's a great story and I've fallen in love with all of thr characters. I even fell in love with Ethen until Stacey came along. Men are NOT that stupid! If it weren't just a story, that man would have known exactly what he was doing from the moment they stepped into the bar. And if I were Olivia, I would have walked right out. Gah!
Crap, this book...this book was so freaking good.
I was introduced to Tricia Daniels (virtually/metaphorically...I haven't actually spoken with her online or in real life) through her feud (all in good fun) with Ren Alexander (Chasing the Wild Sparks) on Facebook.
I read and loved Ren's books so I decided that to really be fair in participating in said feud that I should probably read her book too.
So glad I did.
I can't lie, at first I thought this was going to be just another 50 Shades/This Man type of book. I loved both of those series by the way, so that's not a bad thing. However, this was so not the same. Finally, finally we meet a control freak who can also be light-hearted, playful, friendly and not be a complete a-hole more often than not. Can I also point out that Ethan is the type of rich dom I can deal with. He has plenty of money to live very comfortably but he's not some uptight, posh, pretentious jerk. He dines at pubs and bars and goes to regular old dance clubs. He doesn't live in some ridiculous mansion that's clearly too ginormous for a playboy bachelor. He drives a Dodge Challenger for goodness sake, my dream car. I loved everything about him! I love that while this story had a "meant to be/soulmates from the start" kind of vibe it didn't play out like that. The story flowed at a perfect pace without Olivia and Ethan's relationship moving too quickly or in a contrived manner. How did Ethan say some of the cheesiest, make me roll my eyes kind of lines and not rub me the wrong way. I don't have these answers.
The only answer I have is that you should read this book, read it now, tell your friends about it. Tell your friend's friend'a about it and then come back and tell me about it because I'm totally willing to rehash this story repeatedly to anyone who will listen.
This is one of the most amazing books I have ever read. I was captured by the magic of it from the first page.
Ethan is a strong, dominant, yet romantic, loving Irish Alpha male, with his own set of issues and Olivia is a woman who is broken, but still needs and craves love and submission in her life. Yet this book is not really about BDSM. It is about two souls that are tied together for always, if only they can figure that out. Throw in some shared dreams, wonderful friends, a few parties who try and screw things up for Ethan and Liv, and one crazy grey haired old lady and you have story of a lifetime!
This story made me love and hate the characters at the same time. There were times I almost threw my iPad in frustration, yet to only go to the next page and fall back in love. Tricia has written the ultimate story, filled with fear, happiness, trust, distrust, jealousy, tears, and most of all, LOVE. I am struggling with the way the book ended, but it is just making me crave the 2nd book all that much more. Please Tricia, don't make us wait too long for the second book. This book is a definite must read!!!
Yes, this book is long, there you've been warned, but not a single word is wasted or used as filler. Each passage and detail adds something of importance to the story- and what a story it is. Yes, it is told from more than on POV, there are multiple, but the change is easy to follow and flows smoothly. While that writing style isn't always the easiest to follow, here it works. It allowed me to understand the emotions behind the actions that much better.
I was really able to connect with both of the main characters. Olivia and her fear rooted insecurities only made her that much more relate-able. Except, according to Ethan, it made her stubborn. Ethan with his temper and flirty ways fell and fell hard. I loved how she calmed him and he brought out her confidence (most of the time). His charm got him into some, well deserved, trouble. Lucky for Ethan, Olivia is as kind-hearted and forgiving as she is. I loved when they had their playful moments together, it gave some lightness to some of the heavy topics covered in the story. As did the cast of secondary characters, Rachel, Scott and John.
Oh, the emotions. Intractable Souls took me on such a roller coaster that I wasn't sure which way was up most of the time. I laughed, cried, had my heart ripped out, put back in, and torn out a few more times. Tricia Daniels gave me a literary slap across the face, shrugged her shoulders and kept on writing. And kudos to her for not taking the easy way out and giving Ethan & Olivia a fairytale ending. Their love story is far from over and I for one can not wait to see what unfold for them after the debacle that the book ended with.
