This text is much more advanced than a introduction to research methods, although it does have an excellent first chapter that discusses the challenges of research in communication, and the second chapter discusses research problems. After chapter three, the Reinhard goes deep into measurements and arguments in research. The overviews of the different types of research such as textual analysis, qualitative methods, content analysis, etc. are quite involved.

This book should be two volumes and should be used over a two-semester class, not trying to cover all the material in one semester. Research is extremely involved and this text covers all the aspects, but it is too much for a first-level college course.

Good guide to the communication research, and easy to follow.
But takes lots of time to fully understand some contents.
As a compiliation of diverse theories, the book requires you to make your own notes for consistency.
If you study communication of any sorts, it will be a great help to you. But just read it through once and hop onto another book related to the specific topic you have to dig in.
