This book offers an approachable yet detailed overview of numerous GIS concepts. Chang avoids being tied to any particular platform, instead explaining why each concept is important and when it should be used. Recommended for GIS newcomers as well as experienced users who want a reference for when they need to perform analysis beyond their comfort zone.

This book has some really good info in it, if you can stick with it. The book places few pictures within each chapter, and every pages looks the exact same. Four columns, black and white, four hundred pages. Reading can become exhausting and dry very quickly. I'd suggest finding something to do for a minute or so in between every few pages.

...perfect for anyone getting started with ArcGIS...
...some small changes in ArcGIS10, setting up a personal geodatabase prior to map creation make for some small errors in the texts instructions, however these are easy to adapt to once you get used to the software and encoding...

Terrible! I have to use this book for a class so I had no choice in the matter. However, the instructions for the lab sections for working in ArcGIS provide terrible instructions that are not specific enough. As a first time user I wasted tons of time searching for buttons and functions that were not properly described in the instructions. The book has adequate information about general GIS topics, however it has a horrible correlation with the instructions listed for performing functions in the ArcGIS computer program.

This book covers all vital aspects of GIS you need to know. It provides exercises at the end of each chapter to help you better understand each topic as you go through it and most important, this book uses the latest ArcGIS 10 as a software of reference. In short, if you are planning to study GIS using ArcGIS products, this book is for you.

I bought the book as used, but it looks like new. It arrived earlier than I had expected. I have no complains, everything was just perfect! It was the first time a used amazon.com, I am very satisfied with the product and I give the seller most of the merits.
