Although this is a textbook, I highly recommend it not only to the student, but also to Baby Boomers and to all generations. To those of us who remember Geography as a where-it's-located, and Natural Resources and how we have benefitted by them, this book is a must-read and a wake-up call. Find out where this past mentality has taken us. The facts are alarming and you won't learn about them in the news or even from the more informative cable programs of our time. Knowing the truth is the first step in changing our thinking and thereby changing our world for the better--for our own sakes and for those coming after us.
This work covers every subfield that is recognized today as part of geography's concern, giving the reader an introductory yet well explored overview of each. Boxed inserts relate topics to today's world and add interest and food for thought.
The authors are highly degreed, well published, and otherwise deeply involved professors and teachers in the field and this is reflected in the book.
If you begin and end your inquiry into geography with this book, you will come away intelligently acquainted with it; it provides as well, an excellent starting point for those who wish to delve into it more deeply.
