Noted for its integration of real-world data and case studies, this text offers sound coverage of the theoretical aspects of mathematical statistics. The authors demonstrate how and when to use statistical methods, while reinforcing the calculus that students have mastered in previous courses. Throughout the Fifth Edition, the authors have added and updated examples and case studies, while also refining existing features that show a clear path from theory to practice.

Definitely recommend, but you've got to have your math skills sharpened. Definitely would get the student solutions manual, too, to really see how the problems are done. Great Work!
Maybe right now you're thinking "No biggie, I'll just buy the solutions manual!" Bad idea. The solutions manual offers minimal explanation for many problems. While some of the problems are explained sufficiently, some are not. And the kicker? Some of the problems make references to theorems that don't even exist in the book! Even more don't even answer the question that was asked in the first place!
It is very obvious that whoever performed the final review of this text, before sending it to the press, did not take the time to make sure a first-time statistics student would be able to learn from this book.
Make no mistake: this isn't an introductory text; this is a REVIEW text. If this was sold as a review text, I wouldn't even be currently reviewing it. But because this says "Introduction" in the title then, in my opinion, this qualifies as false advertisement. 0/5. I don't like having my time and money wasted. I would be more forgiving in this review were it not for the simple fact that this book is currently in its fifth edition, the first being published back in 1981. The author has had THIRTY YEARS to get his act together.
