Jill Willard Talks With Jenna Dewan Tatum
Jenna Dewan Tatum is an American actress and dancer.
Jenna: Well, it's safe to say that I absolutely loved your new book, Intuitive Being. Your insight and wisdom into that tangible energy that connects all of us is inspiring and life-affirming. As someone who has always believed in listening and honoring my own intuition—and actively working to open and acknowledge it—thank you! I love how you so clearly defined how to hear the truth and discern the messages and “signs" you are getting. What happens when the signs you receive don't seem to add up to what is happening in reality? Or when the signs point to one direction, and it ultimately changes or doesn't come to fruition in the way they seemed to be guiding you?
JILL: Identifying a sign and how strong it is can be tricky at first. The universe often shows more than one sign; ask for more if you are not noticing a pattern or clear sign initially. A key to detecting signs is that we are in a balanced and emotion-free state. We can ask our gut if we are coming from a clear mind, and often we will get that answer before we finish the sentence.
How emotionally invested we are in the outcome also plays a role in how we hear our intuition. Before we read a sign, check in and ask our self, "Do we feel we are okay, whatever the outcome of the signs?" This helps with projecting false hope or reading into signs.
Jenna: I also love how you explain balance! How necessary it is for us to be both rooted and grounded in our bodies as well as in touch with our spiritual higher self. I find that balance to be one of the most important priorities in my life. I am just simply not as happy and in flow with my life when I am not in balance in one of these areas. (Generally speaking, I am always in need of grounding.) Do you recommend a quick grounding and connecting exercise for all of us with really busy lives?
Jill: Grounding is so important! A very quick way to ground is to bring focused attention to our feet, legs, and hips. Connect to your breathing and begin to breathe deeper into your lungs, accessing calmness in your chest. Locate the bottom of your feet, inhale, and bring your breath as deep as you can into your lower lungs. As you exhale, focus your breath away from your mind, and feel old energy leaving your body. Inhale up fresh energy from the earth. Do this a few times. This connection helps us feel in our body and safe/in control of our present state. Mind-calming meditation helps us ground and connect wonderfully and quickly.
Jenna: I also really love how you talk about this connection with the Divine/your intuition as playful and fun. When I was in my early twenties, I was given a book on spirituality that literally woke me up, and I felt as if I was "remembering" everything instead of learning for the first time. I began a beautiful journey of growth and conscious evolvement. And ever since that moment, I have been in communication with my intuition in a very clear, loud way. But I also laugh a lot and giggle at the signs and synchronicity, which I think is essential because it puts you in alignment with joy and that greater presence around us all. How do you have fun and "play" with your intuition?
Jill: Agreed! Fun and play are irreplaceable! It's why we are all here, yes? Breath and laughter, even when things look pretty dark for a moment. I love being with people who show up for life. I find forgiveness and letting go of emotion as imperative excavation tools whenever needed. Remembering we are all sisters and brothers has saved my sanity and grace, keeping moments light that could otherwise quickly go sideways. Having trust in the unity of the universe. This magical mystery tour was not made for only strife and the serious! Jenna, you are incredible. Such a pearl of light, thank you.
[Willard’s] confidence in her ability to access her own “voice of knowing” enables her to cast a clear light on that function and talk about it in logical, understandable terms. She doesn’t cloak it in the sensationalized overtones that often accompany such discussions. Rather she speaks inclusively and with compassion. (Anna Jedrziewski, Retailing Insight)
