As she states in the book, these steps and tricks are things that she found herself doing naturally. I think I will use this book the most in a mentoring context as it has been the best explanation of the "how-to of career pursuits" put to words that I have ever read.
"Invaluable" is a practical guide to personal growth, with beautifully written stories and original insights. Every chapter ends with a checklist and a summary.
And the best thing is- ANYONE can start using these methods in their life starting today, no matter where they’re currently working or in what field. I think you'll have the same magical "career coach" feeling as well. Oh, and if you're in Marketing, you'll especially love this book.
My only criticism is that it's too short. But maybe in 5-10 years we can read stories about the next chapter of the author's life :-)
She shares 10 incredible skills and provides a step by step guide for each concept to hold yourself accountable. I have shared with my book club and highly recommend for any professional!

The book covers both the inner game along with the habits and systems needed to increase your chances of career progression linked to achievement. It’s also very thoughtful in that it has chapter recaps and checklists to ensure that key lessons are not missed.
Although this book is aimed at helping early stage professionals there are a lot of insights that more seasoned professionals like myself can also glean. It’s especially useful for updating one’s existing perspectives to re-evaluate and where necessary resetting current habits.
The other thing that really impressed me is that the author is open about her key mistakes and the lessons she took as well as her successes. This is a great book which I plan on reading again.
Within each chapter, I was able to intuitively understand how these skills could be applied to my career, thanks to Maya's concise writing and case studies from her own experience. I finished the book in two sittings, and unlike others I've read in this genre, I already had rough action plan in my head by the time I'd reached the end.
It's the real deal - even bought a friend a second copy!
