Par Robot! Part Toothbrush? Invasion of the Bristlebots Spiral-bound – May 1, 2009

3.4 3.4 out of 5 stars 22 ratings

Invasion of the Bristlebots comes with two mini-robots — basically motorized toothbrush heads. These guys zoom around like caffeinated cockroaches, spinning, skittering, and bouncing off walls. Resistance is futile. The book bristles with ideas for robot games and activities: race robots against each other, use the included punch-out walls to construct a bristlebot maze, stage a robot sumo-wrestling match. You can even customize your Bots with the provided wire legs, feelers, and beady eyes.

With grateful acknowledgement to Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories.

Comes With: 2 brush heads, 2 robotivators, clip, wire, beads

Neat idea but execution wasn't great. Too hard for littler kids and weren't very exciting once working.

This was a lot of fun with my son. It is simple and fast, with a delightful story that a 6 year old could get behind. Even though we have "nanobots," my son really enjoyed this idea way more, and it still making his own creative versions.

The reason its four stars is because one of the bristlebots did not work. My son still loves the book and bots.

Only one bristlebot worked out of the package. Neither switch worked correctly after I took out the batteries, tested them with a multimeter (they were AOK) and re-assembled the bots.

Then, upon looking for help on the internet, I realized that Klutz stole the concept from Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories! No credit is given anywhere in the materials that I could see.

As a subscriber to Make Magazine and a supporter of the Maker Community, I'm very sorry I bought the product. Shame on you Klutz. And though I've always liked your products-- no more recommendations for you in my teacher workshops!

Received the book but no parts! I had ordered additional parts that were not exactly what the instructions listed so a bit disappointing...

When my grandson(age 9) saw the package from Amazon.com, he could not believe his eyes-"robots made out of toothbrushes"! He has really enjoyed making the Bristlebots and playing with them. His 6 yr old sister wore out his batteries the first day.

Even though this is an older Klutz book my grandson loved it and played with the "bots" for hours.

I purchased 5 of these enticing little inventions for grandchildren (1 for myself, too!) and was so disappointed. Without exception they were difficult to keep going. The battery connectors were not reliable. It was not easy to replace the battery. Children found them frustrating because of their unreliable nature. The concept is interesting, but I think you should just take apart a vibrating toothbrush, hook up a small battery, etc.

Also great for driving the family pets insane as my sons demonstrated repeatedly after we got these. Combine with a laser pointer and you have a cat that will show you some new acrobatics.
