Finally, don't expect the book to have any great insight on future warfare. The author is assuming only a tiny improvement over what we have to day. He's a bit out of touch on what war will be like 10-20 years from now.
Other than those points, it's quite enjoyable.
Character development is improved vs the first book, but still tends to depend a bit too much on stereotypes. Also, dialogue is not quite so well written as is the action. But, then, the action is so well written that anything written by anybody would have difficulty in comparison.
I'm giving this book five stars because it is an excellent military fiction set in the future that kept me listening even after my commutes were finished.
I'm expecting Invasion Colorado to be even better written, especially since he leaves us hanging in suspension regarding the son of one of the main characters. I trust I can make this statement and not be accused of writing a spoiler.
Invasion California is not perfect, but it is a terrific Clancy-esque read that will keep readers on edge from beginning to end. Those same readers will then return to Amazon and/or Audible to get the next book.
Personal request... I surely would like to know what happen to England and what Canada is considering, since invasion Alaska ended. I thought some mention of it would of been appropraite.
Thanks again for a great book, Mr. Heppner. Hurry up and write the next one...
I recommend anyone interested in this kind of genere to buy this book. You will not be disappointd.
