My primary purpose for this is GUN PARTS CLEANING (I didn't see many reviews regarding this type of parts cleaning)! It works amazing with Lucas Bore Solvent + Ultrasonic Cleaner. The unit also heats up to the point where the metal is almost too hot to handle, so the heating definitely works to help clean the parts. All you need to do after is give them a wipe down, or a slight scrub, or maybe another round in the cleaner depending on how dirty it originally was. I typically though try to wipe down or pre-clean the parts first, just to make the Lucas Bore Solvent last a bit longer and keep it cleaner for longer, but I definitely do not spend huge efforts or amount of time pre-cleaning, the ultra sonic cleaner will do the job! I have always had troubles cleaning between the rifling of the barrel of the pistols no matter what solutions I used, brushes, swabs, squeegees, etc, and I finally found the answer: Ultrasonic Cleaning!
The reason this gets 4 instead of 5 is because you cannot remove the metal basin to wash or clean it, and it's not easy to pour the solution into a bottle to save for the next cleaning, so I have to use a baster (like a turkey baster) to suck the water out and put it in the bottle. It's the easiest and cleanest way I have found, plus doing this after the debris has settled to the bottom ensures that I reuse the good Lucas Bore Solvent without the dirt in it and can last longer.
Pros:
1. Decent size for BCGs, Charging Handles, Pistol parts, slides, barrels, triggers, cleaning brushes, things like this. Just can't put an AR15 upper in it or a long barrel obviously.
2. Heating element works! I don't know how, since there is no heat setting, but the solution definitely gets hot!
3. Compact
4. Quiet
5. Removable cord, on/off switch
6. Clear lid to see the action
7. Buttons are durable and will not get wet and stop working.
8. Easy to understand how to it works, even if you decide not to read the manual (but recommended)
Cons:
1. Cannot remove the metal basin for washing it out

MAXI CLEAN in mini space...easy and portable

This unit is much nicer than the one at my local jewelry store and I didn’t have to drive to get my rings cleaned. I considered what I hoped were the most important qualities before ordering, thought I needed fully removable cover, detachable cord, largest basin and smallest footprint, deepest well. Very happy I did! This rectangular, white ultrasonic cleaner really meets all my criteria. Easily stores in minimal cabinet space, looks pretty on the counter, holds a lot of stuff for cleaning. So far I’ve cleaned: tooth brushes (manual and heads for electric toothbrush), multi-blade razor blades and handles, coins, rings, bracelets, intricate chains and necklaces (no pearls), silverware from Goodwill hauls (still required silver polish), inexpensive readers from drugstore (hubby was surprised how clean they were!), and those tiny salt shakers for fancy dining! I fill the basket, lower it into the machine, add water to cover items while keeping below max water level line, add a few drops of Dawn in the water, set timer and off we go! It’s fun to watch the tiny bubbles agitate the water and see the fog of dirt as it’s lifted away. I put the cover on to be sure nothing escapes (HA) and it shuts off when the time ends. Because the instructions mention less power available when using the basket, I set the time longer. If my item is too big for the basket I can put a bit of thread, twist tie or plastic wrap as a grabber and use the lid to keep it from falling in, like a tea bag string. As I was using this unit I realized I was thinking I shouldn’t be putting my fingers into the solution to fish out the cleaned items, as if I was using a chemical cleaner! It’s just dish detergent! However, I DID read not to reach in while it’s whipping those ultrasonic vibrations around, so I wait until it’s off. Probably won’t nuke me but I need those fingers a few more years. As for the noise level, I have sensitive hearing but the pitch and decibel level is not uncomfortable. It’s similar to my electric toothbrush, quieter than my water pic. You know, all the ultrasonic cleaner brands require a cool down period after heavy use but I just run mine for the needed time and let it shut off when the time is up. When I return and check for adequate cleaning, the machine has cooled enough to allow a reset. It’s really hard not to watch as the dirt magically floats away but try to step away, let it work and cool down on its own a little between batches. As for children using this? I’d say okay with adult supervision. The electric cord and water...not so good for kids (and a few adults I know). The maker says to clean and dry the basin after each use (I rinse with clean water and dry with a paper towel). The shiny metal interior stays pretty. Loose dirt might dry on and pit the surface if it’s not rinsed away. For my money, this is an excellent value and I’m very pleased.
