Here’s the method I use and man does this stuff work like a charm.
I first do a quick basic clean with a normal glass cleaner just to wipe off the visible grime. Then I use a clay bar to get rid of any greases or stuck-on dirt. This will polish the glass so that the rain repellant really coats the glass rather than coating anything on TOP of the glass. After that I follow the directions as written on the bottle. Make sure you buff it away until the glass is dry, don’t just wipe it off and let it air dry.
One last trick I’ve found that works surprisingly well: if you use this on your back windshield, anytime it’s raining turn your back defrost on. For whatever reason, the heated up glass makes the rain just slide off like it’s not even raining.
Combine all this together and your car will be impervious to rain.
