Wow, this isn't my usual genre so I wasn't expecting such a roller-coaster of emotions, I loved this book! Some great twists and suspense along with a lovely romance, I even shed a few tears at one point ... and I don't cry!
Elaine (Lainey) tries to keep herself hidden from her stepdad. Jackson (Jax) the schools basketball heart throb takes an instant shine to the quiet reserved nerdy girl who tries to keep herself to herself and hide under her big glasses and baggy clothes. On the night of their first date everything changes for Elaine, can she now keep herself hidden and safe ?
Whilst this is a fairly short read, I still connected well with Lainey and Jax. I've only dropped my rating a little as the story is told throughout in dual POV, which I personally found annoying as each time it recapped on the same story. However, this doesn't really distract from the fact this is a really great read and I'd definitely recommend.
Laney is the quiet little wallflower Who has been asked to help Jack's stay on the field. She hides who she is from everyone so that she isn't hurt anymore. She's forced to go even further into hiding due to circumstances beyond her control.
These two love birds are thrown back into each other's lives at a time when they need each other the most. Obstacle after obstacle They find their way through in order to see if the love they feel is everlasting.
This is a great HEA that is great for anyone who truly loves a mild romance story. There was a lot of predictability and for that I leave this one with three hearts. The narrator Did a great job on the characters and the reading.
I liked the story of Laney and Jax. The growing budding relationship of their high school selves. The moment they have to part ways, the hard choices made. Then to have them thrust back together in the oddest of circumstances. It was a great mix of laughs, intensity and love.
For me the story was rushed at times. Then sometimes it felt a little muted. Like something was missing.
As for the audiobook itself, it was good but the narrator went too fast. It's like he was on a time crunch or something. There was only a hesitation between chapters and POV changes, so a couple of times I had to stop and go back to figure out what I missed.
This is an audiobook review. So Let me break the book down into the two parts. First the story. 3.5 stars. There were parts of the story I think were slightly rushed. On top of that, the story was written from dual POV, but after getting one, you got the exact same scene from the other perspective. While at times that could be a good thing, too much of it becomes repetitive and it felt as if parts of the story were repeating again...not necessarily in a good way. That said, the story was enjoyable and I really liked how the characters interacted with each other. Jax wants to save the world, and Elaine definitely needs saving.
Next is narration. Can I just start out this part of the review by saying I love Trevor Thompson's voice? It's deep and sinfully sexy. 4.5 stars. I think his voice kept me pulled into the story and kept it interesting. I loved the way he read the book and his intonation was great. Trust me, you will love listening to his voice and will be looking for him elsewhere.
Overall: 4 Stars. Overall the story was enjoyable and the narrator was a perfect choice. I recommend that you pick up this audio book today.
