Wow, this isn't my usual genre so I wasn't expecting such a roller-coaster of emotions, I loved this book! Some great twists and suspense along with a lovely romance, I even shed a few tears at one point ... and I don't cry!
Elaine (Lainey) tries to keep herself hidden from her stepdad. Jackson (Jax) the schools basketball heart throb takes an instant shine to the quiet reserved nerdy girl who tries to keep herself to herself and hide under her big glasses and baggy clothes. On the night of their first date everything changes for Elaine, can she now keep herself hidden and safe ?
Whilst this is a fairly short read, I still connected well with Lainey and Jax. I've only dropped my rating a little as the story is told throughout in dual POV, which I personally found annoying as each time it recapped on the same story. However, this doesn't really distract from the fact this is a really great read and I'd definitely recommend.
This is an audiobook review. So Let me break the book down into the two parts. First the story. 3.5 stars. There were parts of the story I think were slightly rushed. On top of that, the story was written from dual POV, but after getting one, you got the exact same scene from the other perspective. While at times that could be a good thing, too much of it becomes repetitive and it felt as if parts of the story were repeating again...not necessarily in a good way. That said, the story was enjoyable and I really liked how the characters interacted with each other. Jax wants to save the world, and Elaine definitely needs saving.
Next is narration. Can I just start out this part of the review by saying I love Trevor Thompson's voice? It's deep and sinfully sexy. 4.5 stars. I think his voice kept me pulled into the story and kept it interesting. I loved the way he read the book and his intonation was great. Trust me, you will love listening to his voice and will be looking for him elsewhere.
Overall: 4 Stars. Overall the story was enjoyable and the narrator was a perfect choice. I recommend that you pick up this audio book today.
Years later, Detective Jackson McKenna ends up in Elizabeth’s office and again due to circumstances beyond their control they are thrown together to fight for their lives and their love.
L.A. Remenicky has written an enticing story with good storyline and characters. There was some repeating of the story from different POV during the first part of the story, but that works it’s self out as we continue into the core of the story and finishes with a nice finale.
I listened to this story on audio. It was narrated by Trevor Thompson. This is first narration of Mr. Thompson I’ve heard. He does a good job, but since this book is dual POV, his female impression is just so-so. I believe I would prefer his narration with a female narrator in a dual narration.
Overall, I enjoyed both the story and the narration. 4 Solid Stars.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Listeners Copy of this audio book in exchange for an honest review.
Laney is the quiet little wallflower Who has been asked to help Jack's stay on the field. She hides who she is from everyone so that she isn't hurt anymore. She's forced to go even further into hiding due to circumstances beyond her control.
These two love birds are thrown back into each other's lives at a time when they need each other the most. Obstacle after obstacle They find their way through in order to see if the love they feel is everlasting.
This is a great HEA that is great for anyone who truly loves a mild romance story. There was a lot of predictability and for that I leave this one with three hearts. The narrator Did a great job on the characters and the reading.
There is much to tell in this relatively short book and the author does a great job of creating characters that capture your heart, tear at your emotions and make you cheer for their love to make it this time. The author tells the story in both points of view.
It isn't an easy road and there are plenty of pot holes, even a few downed trees in the way. But they are both strong and their past has helped build that strength. Now faced with it's dangers and their love can they make it? Will the villain win out this time and complete his mission? How much horror can one person handle, even with the support or family and love?
Enjoy this one, but don't expect to get drowsy reading it, too much action and emotion to relax. This is reviewed for Words Turn Me On.
