This CD presents a number of virtouso transcriptions of George Gershwin's works made by himself and other authors. It contains the only currently available recording of the solo piano version of entire Concerto in F as arranged by Grace Castagnetta, seven Etudes on Gershwin songs by Earl Wild, and seven of Gershwin's own improvisations as transcribed by Artis Wodehouse. This distinctive collection is not only rare but is also beautifully performed by Irina Morozova.

I think Morozova has a wonderful rhythmic sense in these pieces which serves her to good effect. On the other hand, I wish she was more faithful to the actual text. In the Gershwin Concerto in F, she adds notes, tremolos, etc. to the manuscript that are clearly not in the original. This essentially creates an "arrangement" of an "arrangement"! In other places, her playing lacks the subtlety one would expect, especially in the etudes, which are played without much dynamic contrast and color. If you go to Earl Wild's performances just afterwards, you can hear everything Morozova misses.
Worth acquiring for this exact combination of repertoire, which is not repeated elsewhere.

Amazing Performance!

I was amazed by such an impressive quintessence of the highest technical quality with a certainly masterful musicianship and fully represented understanding of a character. This recording is an impressive example for classical and jazz musicians as well as an unforgettable gift for all music lovers. I highly recommend getting this CD, if you are still thinking about it.
