I downloaded the sample of this dictionary onto my Kindle Fire (8.9 HD) to have a look at it, since another reviewer had given it only one star, and was happy to discover that, on the Kindle Fire, an interactive location bar for the entire book displays at the bottom of the page at all times, so that looking up a word only requires sliding an indicator to the right spot. Though this required some approximation on my part (a bit of luck & the illusion of skill!), locating the general area of an entry wasn't too great a challenge, and I have found the exact definitions I was looking for 19 times out of 20 -- a great help in my introductory Irish language study! I find the fact that the definitions aren't too detailed is actually a positive asset. (Sometimes, too much information can make finding the most general meaning of a word difficult to figure out....) Since this dictionary is designed for students in Ireland (apparently), it is just right for basic learning, (which, if you have any idea of the complexity of the Irish language, is not all that "basic"...). This book enabled me to "go from zero to 60 in 30 seconds," in terms of reading comprehension, and being available on Kindle meant an instantaneous download. I am very pleased with this purchase, and recommend this dictionary to anyone slogging through the drills and written exercises of a first or second year student (at least) who wishes to quickly find the words they need on the spot.
If it had a full dictionary search function, I would not have hesitated to give it five stars. For being downloadable, concise, and under $10, I am tempted to give it 5 stars, anyway, but it really should be upgraded someday in terms of being equipped with a standard dictionary search function.
Just download the sample first to verify that you like it and can use it, despite its limitations. For my part, I find that it works great on my Kindle Fire!
