Editorial Reviews

About the Author

There is, perhaps no-one more qualified to author this work. Michael C. O'Laughlin served as president of the Irish Genealogical Foundation for 10 years and holds the position as editor-in-chief of the journal of Irish Families. He has published over 30 titles on Irish history and family research. These include rare book reprints such as Keatings History of Ireland, and original hardbound works on the Irish in America.

An ardent supporter of the Irish heritage, his studies have covered every phase of research, from ancient history and legend to modern Irish pedigrees. Numerous speaking engagements and research tours of Ireland are among his long list of accomplishments. What began as a solitary devotion some 20 years ago, culminates now with research contributions from 10,000 members of the Irish Genealogical Foundation.. The leading author/ publisher of Irish Family works, his journal of 'Irish Families' remains the focal point for Irish Families worldwide.

A continuing quest, volumes remain unpublished from his private archives, but this compilation of Irish surnames is the largest in scope ever published.

I'd been looking for some of the old topographical descriptions of families in Ireland - they are often referred to but never given completely in any work. This one has the old writings on where our families were, and the old genealogies from ancient times - if you are serious about Irish history - you will be delighted at this choice piece.

The information contained in the book was of little or no value to me personally as a genealogy research tool. Other books provide a clearer picture of Ireland's history. I was disappointed with its content.
