This book was the most complete reference I have found to date. It helped me a great deal with research on finding my Irish ancestors. It contains a history on each county and parish and explains in detail all the records available for research in those areas. Examples and pictures are provided of certain documents, and information is discussed on the meaning of each. Specific addresses where each document is available is provided, along with specific dates the documents cover. This book may be a little overwhelming as to the content, but I would recommend it as the most comprehensive reference book on Irish ancestry I've found to date.

This is a marvelous book! Preface: "This guide lists available records for each county in Ireland ... under the following headings: A Brief History; Census and Census Substitutes; Church Records: Church of Ireland, Presbyterian, and Roman Catholic; Commercial and Social Directories; Family History; Gravestone Inscriptions; Newspapers; Wills and Administrations; Miscellaneous Sources; and Research Sources and Services." For each parish lists existing records and provides address of where deposited. Provides LDS Family History Library Film numbers, listed as SLC. Easy to follow and extremely helpful. A must for any serious Irish researcher.

My VERY particular and brilliant girlfriend who is quite serious about family history research and who vets every source down to the nubs really appreciated getting this book for Christmas. If she endorses it...it must be good!

This is not just a little book on how to find Irish records. This is a very large textbook that can tell you anything you need to know about genealogy - anything. Reading this book is an education on the history of Ireland as expressed in local and national record sources. For those of us with Irish ancestry stymied by the lack of national-level records, this is the guide that will help us move forward both abroad and in Ireland. Highly recommended!
