This book tells the story of Anthony Bear, a very handsome young man with black hair down to his waist and he completely looked like what he was, an Indian. He was so handsome that when Grizz introduced Kit to him when they were first together back in the 70's, Kit was so struck by his beauty as a man, Grizz was a little jealous!
This tells the story of Anthony from when he was young to the present in a series of flashbacks, both before and after he meets Christy Chapman, a young 22 year old that is beautiful with short blond hair and Anthony feels nothing but disdain for her, as she was a wealthy young heiress and he figured she was a spoiled uncaring person. They meet at her stepfather and mother's house, as Grizz is there checking on his workers as he owns a legal landscaping company. However he is there to take action against Christy's step dad who owes Grizz a ton of money. Realizing the man has gone off the grid he then proceeds to kidnap Christy as a means of forcing her stepdad's hand to pay his debt.
I do not want to say much else except that not only Anthony but Christy misjudges Anthony as well. In the process of everything going on they fall in love! Two attempts to hurt Christy happen and Anthony finally realizes he loves her-he has never felt love for anyone before so at first he does not know what he is feeling. Christy also falls in love with Anthony but doesn't want to let him know as she has shameful secrets in her past that she feels Anthony will take exception to when he finds out about them and although she wants to tell him, she is afraid.
This book is full of so many twists to the plot, it has a lot of terrible things that happen, but despite all of that there is also a lot of angst between Christy and Anthony that changes everything. You should read this book, it does not end on a cliffhanger and if you read the Nine Minutes trilogy you will enjoy when Christy meets Grizz and Kit, and learns about how much Big Bad Biker Grizz falls for Kit, who like her is so different than the two men!
This book is a book I really loved and will enjoy reading time and again along with the Nine Minutes trilogy. Beth Flynn is one of my favorite authors, and I hope she will write a lot more so I can add each book to my favorite bookcase!
I gave this book 5***** stars and can't wait to read hopefully more spinoffs from The Nine Minutes Trilogy!
>I am an independent reviewer. This book is a spin off from the Nine Minutes series and ends in an HEA. This story follows the events in the Nine Minutes series, sometimes overlapping as Anthony Bear and Grizz interact throughout their lives. Anthony kidnaps the daughter of a client who owes him a lot of money. Christy hates her father and soon empathizes with Anthony and falls for him. Anthony has a lot of prejudice regarding rich white women to overcome, but soon falls for Christy as well.
>The story takes place in the 70’s, with a lot of flashbacks to Anthony’s early life. The flashbacks were actually helpful in explaining Anthony’s pride, work ethic and feelings for his sister, Nisha. The flashbacks get a bit confusing when there is a flashback in a flashback. The author overused the flashback tool a bit.
>Once Anthony and Christy get together, danger and subterfuge revolve around them. There are a lot of side characters that have story lines that are hinted at, but never fleshed out. I hope these stories are revealed in upcoming books. The biggest example is Nisha and X. A stalker is mentioned, then X is imprisoned. A quick sentence mentioning Nisha and X and their unconventional relationship is unfulfilling.
>The end of the book feels like time travel. The author goes from flashbacks to jumping ten to fifteen years in the future. The middle son, Christian, is a trouble maker and definitely has a story coming. While I enjoy an extended epilogue, so much was glossed over. I would like to see Anthony fuss over a pregnant Christy. Secrets between Grizz and Anthony are discussed, but not revealed to the reader. Readers of the Nine Minutes series will know what happens to Grizz and Ginny, but readers of just this book, will be confused.
>This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I would not consider the story to be a standalone. I am giving the book 4 stars. There were too many unanswered questions and time jumps, both backwards and forwards. That being said, I love this story and the characters and definitely want more.
