The Irresistible Table by Mary DeMuth offers simple, heartfelt advice on the importance of building a sense of family, community, and conversation around the dinner table. By providing simple, delicious, and easy recipes (which are family tested (her own) and heartily approved), Mary offers any cook the opportunity to present something which will be pleasing and well received.

As I've experimented with the various recipes from The Irresistible Table, I have been very pleased to discover the recipes use ingredients found in my kitchen or can be easily found in my local grocery store (okay, there is that recipe which calls for a trip to a specialty store for a Greek cheese).

Mary even includes several entree recipes which can be prepared in a crock pot (which is a God send to any person with a busy life)!

Now, I have not seen a physical copy of this book (being sent a free e-book version for my personal, honest opinion and review), so I do not know if there are pictures to accompany any of these recipes. However, the straight forward directions will leave any cook satisfied the result is as described even if unsure what the final presentation might look like.

I heartily recommend The Irresistible Table by Mary DeMuth. There is a nice sampling of good, home cooked food which will warm the heart and enliven the soul as it's shared with friends and family.

I'm delighted The Irresistible Table is now available because Mary's Facebook and Twitter photos and descriptions of her family meals made me wish I lived next door...or at least within walking distance.

Generally, I buy cookbooks for the recipes, not for reading material outside of the kitchen. Mary's, however, is unique in that it opens with suggestions on cultivating "the art of hospitality," which is sadly missing from many homes today. And, for those following Paleo or even gluten-free diets, there are recipes here that work. Also, these are recipes that won't keep you in the kitchen and dirty nine different pans in the process.

Mary's recipe for Baked Feta is yummy, and a delicious spread on hot French bread (I live in New Orleans, so I have easy access to this!). We also loved the Roasted Asparagus. I haven't tried yet, but plan to cook the Rolled Stuffed Pork Loin. I don't often buy a pork loin roast because, well, I wasn't sure how to dress it up. Mary's recipe uses ingredients (simple ones) that I wouldn't have thought of on my own.

Okay, so even if you don't cook, this book's cover is so lovely and inviting it's perfect for gift-giving (hint: Mother's Day) and will provide a nice touch to your kitchen decor!

I love cookbooks. I love big ones, small ones, old and new ones. And before this starts to sound like a Dr. Seuss book, I'll add I have all of the above. The oldest one I own is my mother's cookbook from the 1950's. I can't bear to part with it, but honestly I've never cooked a thing from it. I'm not a complicated-use-a-million-ingredients kind of cook. I'm a simple-throw-it-all-together-make-it-easy-as-possible kind of cook. I don't often measure, unless I'm baking. In my kitchen my motto is, "The bigger the mess the better the food". At least, that's what I like to think!

I distinctly remember my mother teaching me to make cream of tomato soup from the can when I was probably 6 or 7 years old. I stood on a chair at the stove, stirring for what seemed like forever. Watching the milk mix in with the condensed soup was my time to be creative and swirl designs in the pan. I grew from making soup to being responsible for feeding the family in my early teens. Over the years I've created my own concoctions, mostly using the least expensive and fewest ingredients as possible. These creations came from necessity when my children were small. We had a family of five to feed on an income of around $8hr. With two growing boys, it was a weekly challenge that included things like tuna casserole, Texas Skillet (my own recipe) and lots of spaghetti.

Having said all this, I had the opportunity recently to get a copy of Mary DeMuth's newest release, "The Irresistible Table". As much as I love cookbooks, I had no idea what this one would include. Upon first glance, I wasn't sure there was anything in the book I could reasonably use for my family. Mary is an accomplished cook and her latest cookbook has many intriguing recipes.
