One of the face plate mounting screws didn't have threads adequately cut to the full depth (or the countersink is cut to deep), so the screw threads would bottom out before the face plate was snug. I chased the threads on a die, which seems to have resolved it (M6x1.0mm).
The bottom on mine is slightly out of flat, which is also annoying but less concerning than the abject lack of attention to detail on the machined surfaces.
I'm not expecting Starrett here... But if I wanted a Half Finished tool, I would have bought the Harbor Freight model for $10 less.
On the box - "IRWIN - Made in China to IRWIN Specifications."
Either your quality control is failing or your specifications are lacking. If this was my product, I would be embarrassed to show it to my own mother, let alone ship it to a customer..
So others can avoid the mistake of buying this and then finding out the holes don't line up to allow you to bolt the vice to your drill press, here are the measurements for the slots in the vice which you would use to bolt it down (accurate as of September 2016 when I purchased this):
Width of one of the slots: 5/8"
Length of one of the slots: 2-7/8"
Center point to center point of slots on either side: 5-2/8"
So if the center point to center point measurement doesn't line up with the corresponding center points for the slots in your drill press, then you are going to have the same problem of me where you can't bolt it to your drill press.
It didn't have a flat bottom out of the box mostly due to uneven paint globs, I used a glass plate and some 100 grit sandpaper and knocked off the high spots in five minutes. I couldn't get a square clamp in the jaws till I noticed one of the jaw face screws was a few thousands proud due to the chamfer not being deep enough to seat the screw below flush.
Check it over when you get it, tune it a bit and you'll have a nice solid little vice.
like some other reviewers mentioned you should have a file on hand to file down some areas before you use it, in particular one side of the face of the clamp has burrs that run the whole length of the face on the top side so its not a big deal, and I touched up the other side, it didnt entirely need it tho. if you own a drill press thats only about 100-200$ then this will work just fine for you, especially for the price. I do very LIGHT machining and I have a 150$ Craftsman drill press and the holes line up perfectly with it so i can bolt it down if i need to.
but if you are doing precision work, obviously buy something else.

The product is sturdy, holds things fairly well. If you need a cheap vice to last you until you can get a good one then definitely try this out. It has a decent amount of sway, so if you are clamping something more to one end then the other then you will likely run into issues, other than that it works well enough.
CON's: It's 24$ so I can't complain, but here's the CONS:
Soft jaws are chipped, product looks like it was repackaged, so it could be a return, no grease (you'll need to add your own to the ACME screw), Play and backlash, but it's acceptable for a cheap vice. The entire vice, except for the jaws are cast, not machined. Again, it's 24$ and I wouldn't be expecting higher quality for this price.
I'd wish the jaws would have a square hole in the center as to let the drill pass through it but I knew that before buying it.
The table on my drill press (Wen 4208) will not fit the hole on the vise to secure it because the vise is wide. That is not a big problem since I can move the table sideway.
Very happy with my acquisition.
