Amazon.com Review
The Isaiah Effect: Decoding the Lost Science of Prayer and Prophesy draws on new discoveries in quantum physics, as well as a variety of spiritual traditions and religious documents--including Tibetan, Mayan, and Hopi prophecies; Nostradamus; and the Dead Sea Scrolls. From these sources, author Gregg Braden believes that he has recovered "a lost science with the power to bring a lasting end to all war, disease, and suffering; initiate an unprecedented era of peace and cooperation between governments and nations; render destructive patterns of weather harmless; bring lasting healing to our bodies; and redefine ancient prophecies of devastation and catastrophic loss of life." Mass prayer is the technique that will allow all of these goals to be achieved, Braden says: "the choice of many people, focused in a specific manner, has a direct and measurable effect on our quality of life." The book includes careful readings of ancient texts, prophetic pronouncements, and mini-travelogues (Braden leads groups to visit sacred sites around the world), and its arguments may strike some readers as far-fetched. But Braden's basic idea--that hope can change the world in concrete ways--is a very good one.

"Gregg Braden is a rare blend of scientist, visionary and scholar with the ability to speak to our minds, while touching the wisdom of our hearts." - Deepak Chopra

From Publishers Weekly
Braden, author of Walking Between the Worlds and Awakening to Zero Point, examines one of the ancient texts found in the 1947 discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls at Nag Hammadi. Braden contends that scholars have misinterpreted the Isaiah Scroll, which opens with apocalyptic visions of massive global destruction followed by a time of peace. The author claims that the scroll contains the key to a lost scientific tradition that promises to end war and heal our bodies. Indeed, he contends, Isaiah's prophecies can help us make sense of recent changes in climate and weather, changes that, according to Braden, have perplexed Western scientists untutored in the ancient prophecies. He suggests that we may be living in the era that precedes the destruction Isaiah predicted. But we are not destined to fulfill the prophecies: prayer, writes Braden, "allows us to choose which future prophecy we live." Not just any prayer, of course: Braden finds traditional Western prayer inadequate to the task, so he introduces readers to a (somewhat garbled) lost mode of prayer where the supplicant does not ask for something but acknowledges that somehow the prayer has already been fulfilled. Spiritual seekers in America have long and venerable traditions of trying to match up the general prophecies in ancient texts with specific contemporary events; Braden's bizarre attempt may not, in the end, prove to be more accurate than those that identified Gorbachev as the Antichrist. From the Back Cover
A Groundbreaking Interpretation of Prayer, Quantum Science, and Prophecy.
Only one document was discovered completely intact among the 25,000 fragments of papyrus, parchment, and hammered copper known as the Dead Sea Scrolls: the Great Isaiah Scroll. Nearly one thousand years older than existing copies of the Old Testament's Book of Isaiah, the twenty-two-foot-long parchment was still rolled and sealed in its original earthen vase when it was discovered in 1946. The completeness of the Isaiah Scroll offers unprecedented insight into the power of an ancient mystery -- a lost mode of prayer -- that modern science is just beginning to understand. Displayed today in Jerusalem's Shrine of the Book Museum, the Great Isaiah Scroll is believed to be so precious by modern scholars that it's withdrawn into a vault beneath the building's floor in the event of a natural or man-made disaster.
In The Isaiah Effect, the dazzling new work from the author of Awakening to Zero Point and Walking Between the Worlds, scientist and visionary Gregg Braden offers a radical departure from traditional interpretations of Isaiah's text. Weaving state-of-the-art research with his extensive knowledge of the ancient Essenes (the creators of the scroll texts), Braden invites us on a journey where science and miracles are merged into a new wisdom -- and lead to a startling conclusion. He suggests that Isaiah, the first Old Testament prophet, left precise instructions to the people of the future describing an unconventional mode of prayer.
Using principles recognized only recently in quantum physics, Braden demonstrates how Isaiah's nonreligious, nondenominational form of prayer transcends time and distanceto bring healing to our bodies and peace to the nations of our modern world.

Living the Days of Prophecy
History Points to Now
For some reason the man caught my eye as I strolled down the hallway past the rest rooms and telephones. It could have been his artwork displayed on the walls. Perhaps it was his jewelry, modestly peeking from the handcrafted box lined with felt. More likely than not, however, it was the three children that surrounded him. Having no children of my own, over the years I’ve gotten better at estimating the ages of those that belong to other people. The oldest with the man was nearly eight years old. Working toward the youngest, there was perhaps two years’ difference between one and the next. What beautiful children, I thought to myself as I passed their display in the lobby of the restaurant.
I had just finished a long-overdue meal with friends near a small seaside town north of San Francisco. Preparing to offer a workshop that would continue over the next three days, I knew that I had been a little distant at dinner. From my vantage point at one end of the table, the conversations seemed to be happening all around me. I had felt like an observer as the rest of the group quickly paired off in catch-up conversation regarding careers, romance, and future plans. I remember wondering if my choice of seating was intentional, my way of avoiding direct participation while still enjoying the presence of old friendships in intimate conversation. More than once I had found myself looking out of the tall plate-glass windows that stood between me and the tide rising under the pier. My mind was focused on the presentation that I would make the following evening. What words would I share in the opening? How would I invite an audience of mixed backgrounds and varied beliefs to follow me into an ancient message of life-affirming hope regarding our time in history?
“Hey, how is it going?” the man with the children and jewelry said as I walked toward him. The unexpected greeting of a stranger jolted me into the present. I smiled and nodded.
“Great,” I replied, without even thinking. “It looks like you have some good helpers,” I said, gesturing toward his three children. The man laughed, and as I stopped we quickly found ourselves in conversation about his jewelry, his wife’s artwork, and their four children.
“I was the midwife for each of my children,” he said. “I was the first eyes that they saw when they came into this world. My hands were the first hands that touched their bodies.” His eyes sparkled as he described how his family had grown. Within a matter of moments, this man whom I had never met before began describing the miracle of birth that he and his wife had experienced four times together. I was quickly moved by his trust and the sincerity of his voice as he shared intimate details of each birth.
“It’s easy to bring a baby into this world,” he said.
Easy for you to say, I thought to myself. What would your wife say if I were to ask her about having babies? Just as I had the thought, a woman appeared from down the hallway. Immediately I knew that she and the man were together. They were one of those couples that just look as though they are part of one another. She walked up to us and smiled warmly as she slipped her arm around her husband. I would have passed her display down the hallway if I had not stopped to speak with her husband first. Knowing the answer to the question that I was about to ask, I spoke first.
“Are you the mother of these beautiful children?”
The pride in her eyes gave away her answer, even before the words left her mouth. “Yes, I am,” she replied. “I’m the mother to all five of them.” With the wide grin that comes from the privilege of sharing years with another person, she laughed and poked her husband in the arm. I caught on immediately. She was referring to him as the fifth child. She held in her arms the fourth and youngest, a small boy perhaps two years old. As he squirmed, his mother placed him feet-first on the tiled floor of the restaurant entryway. He stepped to his father, who picked him up in a single motion and cradled him in the crook of one arm. The young boy seated himself upright so he could look directly into his father’s eyes, and he remained that way for the rest of our conversation. It was obviously something that they had done many times before.
“So, it is easy to have a child?” I said, as a reminder of where we had left our conversation before the man’s wife had appeared.
“Usually,” he replied. “When they are ready, there is not much stopping them. They just shoot right out!” With his youngest son still in his arms, the man stooped a little to mimic an athlete catching a ball, or a baby in his arms.
We all laughed as he and his wife looked at each other. Then an air of stillness came over the couple as well as their children. Now and then someone crosses our path in precisely the right moment, with precisely the right words to jolt our memories and awaken possibilities that lie sleeping within each of us. I believe that, on unspoken levels, we work together in this way. In the innocence of the unexpected, a magical moment unfolds. I knew that this was one of those moments. The man looked directly at me. The expression on his face and the feeling in my heart told me that whatever was about to happen was the reason we were together in that moment.
“Usually there are no problems,” the man continued. “Once in a while, though, something happens. Something goes wrong.”
Looking at the young boy in his arms, the man drew the child even closer as he reached up and brushed the hair off the boy’s forehead with his hand. For an instant the two gazed into each other’s eyes. I was honored by their ability to share their love without making me feel like an observer. They were allowing me to participate in their moment.
“It happened with this one,” the man continued. “We had some problems with Josh.” I listened carefully as he continued. “Everything was going fine, just the way it should. My wife’s water had broken and her labor had progressed to the point where we found ourselves having our fourth home birth. Josh was in the birth canal when suddenly everything stopped. He just stopped coming. I knew that something was wrong. For some reason I thought back to a police operations manual that I had read years earlier. There was a chapter on emergency births, with one section dedicated to possible complications. My mind raced to that section. Isn’t it funny how just the right things seem to come to our minds at just the right moment?” He laughed a nervous laugh as his wife stepped closer. Placing her arm around her husband and her youngest child, I knew that they were sharing an experience that had brought the three of them together through a rare bond of intimacy and wonder.
“The manual said that every once in a while during birth, the baby may become lodged against the mother’s tailbone. Sometimes it’s the head, sometimes the shoulder, that gets wedged. It’s a relatively simple procedure to reach inside and free the child. This is just what I believed was happening to Josh.
“I reached inside my wife, and the most amazing thing happened. I found her tailbone, moved my hand upward a little bit, and sure enough, I felt Josh’s shoulder blade, lodged up against the bone. Just as I was about to shift him myself, I felt a movement. It took a moment for me to realize what was happening. It was Josh’s hand. He was reaching up toward his mother’s tailbone to free himself! As his arm brushed my hand, I was given an experience that I believe very few fathers have ever had.” By this time, we were all in tears.
“The story isn’t over yet,” the man’s wife said softly. “Go ahead, tell the rest,” she whispered encouragingly to her husband.
“I’m getting to that part.” He grinned as he wiped his eyes with his hands. “As his arm brushed my hand, Josh stopped moving, just for a couple of seconds. I believe he was trying to understand what he had found. Then I felt him again. This time he was not reaching up to free himself from his mother’s tailbone. This time he was reaching for me! I felt his tiny hand move across my fingers. His touch was uncertain at first, as if he were exploring. In just a matter of seconds there was a strength in his grip. I felt my unborn son reach out and wrap his fingers around mine confidently, as if he knew me! In that moment I knew that Josh would be okay. Together, the three of us worked to bring Josh into this world, and here he is today.” We all looked at the little boy in his father’s arms. Noticing all eyes on him, Josh nestled his face into his father’s shoulder.
“He’s still a little shy,” the man said with a laugh.
“I can see why he’s so drawn to you,” I said. “You two have quitea history together.” --This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition.

The Dead Sea Scrolls have given us a message that permeates almost every religious tradition--that we are part of a world order in which we can choose among the possibilities given us by the universe. Though a God force may be involved, it is spread among people who communicate with each other through quantum energy fields, rather than through heavenly dictates. Here is a hopeful, empowering message for all open-minded spiritual seekers, and it's offered by an author whose speaking tone and style are as spontaneous, enthusiastic, and original as any in recent memory. It's fascinating to hear him and to share the intellectual and spiritual joys of his discoveries. T.W. © AudioFile 2002, Portland, Maine-- Copyright © AudioFile, Portland, Maine

I like the author. I watch his stuff on YouTube often and am fascinated with what he has to say. The book---eh---not so much. He takes too long to get into whatever it is he is trying to say. I feel there are far too much unnecessary stories and useless information. Some people want to get right to the heart of the matter. Tell me about the findings, the research, the science, the prayer, the prophecy. I never reached these things. Sorry, but this book is a slow, boring, filled with unnecessary and irrelevant information.

Need more insight on praying and what praying really is. Ever wonder about quantum physics applies in prayer and miracles. Get your answers in this book. Gregg tells stories about how once in Egypt they got from one point in their travels in 4 hours when it should of taken 7+ hours. Or how a bladder tumor disappears as prayer was being administered. Do you wonder why your prayers don't work, then read this book on insight from cultures even before the time of Jesus on how to be more effective in prayer. Do you wonder how Jesus healed people? He knew these principles. This book will help you be more aware of how we affect our world in everything you do.

I gave this book 5 stars because of the information related to prayer technique. He related information that I had not seen anywhere else. I was not particularly interested in the history of prophecy so I understand why other readers may have been bored with specific sections of the book. From my perspective, the entire book was well-written and a valuable addition to one's Mindfulness library. This was my first read on this author. I will look for more inspiration from him in his other projects. Well-done Mr Braden!

This explains so much for me, as I'm the one who takes the point of view in those friendly debates that Aliens did NOT help us build the temples and pyramids around the world! I have been saying that we humans have lost some serious know-how which allowed us to do/build/create the seemingly impossible. Gregg Braden explains how our lost power has been literally buried deep for centuries and now it has come to light! For anyone who has ever questioned how the human race could have built the architectural wonders of the past, herein lies the explanation. And, seriously, answering that question is only the beginning of where this understanding will take you. This is really a book about who we are and how it is that we have strayed from our divine nature, our birthright.

This book should be half the size. There is a lot of great stuff and a lot of filler fluff that goes nowhere. He has gems then blah blah. Very distracting. It's worth wading through for the good stuff, but you do need to wade. I was glad I read it, but it seemed like he felt he was getting paid by volume over substance.

This book is a must read for those on the quest for gnosis. In our heart of hearts, we know what we have been taught is not the whole truth. We know in our souls, that there is more. We hunger and thirst for it. This is the time in our collective Life, when all things hidden, must be revealed. Like adopted children whose files have been sealed, being presented with all we need to know who we truly are, and where we came from. Read and enjoy your awakening.

Gregg Braden has done vast research on the Essenes, a community committed to living according to spiritual laws in the time of Christ. He does a great job in carefully deciphering the power of prayer in their times and showing its unchanging nature with the ability to manifest even today. He writes of the importance of emotion and feeling the prayer; bringing it from the head into a matter of the heart. He talks of the possibility of living life in a prayer, which in fact is living a life in the space of continuous intentionality and co-creation with God. I found it to be an amazing book bringing home to me the importance of mindful living, of being present, aware. Of living in faith. I believe if one has truly embraced, incorporated - taken out of the intellectual mind - and encodified, better said, embodied its teachings, then one is living a transformed, powerful, God present life. I loved the book.

Greg Braden is a former earth science expert as well as a computer systems designer turned tour guide of sacred and religious sites all over the world. He has written a number of books on similar subjects.
The Isaiah effect examines many tenants and religious beliefs throughout man kind's history. Looking at who wrote the Bible, why books were left out and what it meant to the overall understanding of the Bible that the books were not included in the final project. He looks at the Bible with all the books and also looks at Native American, Mayan and Aztec beliefs among many others (to be listed later). How are they similar? The writer will show you.
Greg Braden believes we are missing something today. He explains how mass prayer has been proven to work. He discusses quantum physics theories that make many of the ancient prophecies seem plausible. The book spends a good bit of time discussing "The Bible Code" and the possibilities that it teaches us. The writer also has chapters discussing healing through prayer among many other faith based actions.
This book tries to make you think. Common prophecies, common threads in religion, did we all come from one belief? The book also presents a new way to look at time, time travel, dimensions, religions and quantum physics, prayer and prophecy, alternate realities, multiple paralleled universes. Can we bounce back and forth between them? Maybe even without knowing? Are we actually just now starting to learn or relearn what the ancient people knew? If so, why? How do the prophecies from Peru, Tibet, Egypt, Jerusalem and the American Southwest coincide?
Many questions are explored in the book. Some answers are given which in turn just raise a few more questions. This is a book that makes you think about many things including how we, as a race, relate to the seen and unseen worlds. If you are in a contemplating mood this is the book for you. If you are interested in the history and contents of religions this has some interest. If you feel something is missing in today's religions, read this book. It will make you think.

Great book from this author whose work I enjoy and get a lot out of. Quantum science meets spirituality with snippets from other books to reinforce the message. We are all connected! The great thing about it was the message of hope. We can change our future by being peace within ourselves.
