Rich socialites have daddy's yacht for the summer to sail the Pacific Ocean. They have a crew of thirty or so waiting on them hand and foot. All they are worried about is making sure there is enough sex, drugs, and alcohol to go around. After Kalina finds her boyfriend cheating on her she cuts him off. Then when he hits her, she decides this cruise is over and grabs a bottle of vodka and decides to sleep in the lifeboat. Passed out she doesn't realize the ship has come under attack of pirates or that handsome deckhand Adam is in the boat with her zipping across the ocean running for his life. When they finally spot an island they are beyond ecstatic, but how long can that last? How long can they last?
- “As you wish.”
- “It is special,” he agreed at last. “It’s special because this is where I met you.”
ISLAND ESCAPE is the first in a new series of steamy, New Adult tales from author, Viv Daniels. ISLAND ESCAPE serves as a prequel to The Island series, detailing how the people living on the island in question ended up there. Telling the story of wealthy heiress Kalina and deck-hand Adam, ISLAND ESCAPE is a sexy, captivating introduction and left me wanting more.
To be honest I was a little unsure about whether I would like this book because the characters were wholly unlikable at first and I wouldn't have minded if they had fell overboard the yacht they were on! Kalina, an orphaned heiress is spending the summer on her boyfriend's yacht, sailing around the Pacific. She spends her days with her equally wealthy friends, snorting cocaine, downing vodka shots and behaving like a spoiled princess. Adam, a college student from New Mexico, was raised in a religious fundamentalist family who believe the apocalypse is nigh and survivalist living is imperative. Fleeing from that life, he's ended up on the yacht to earn some cash. Spending his days being propositioned by Kalina's friends and cleaning up after their destructive behaviour is not what he had in mind. When pirates board the yacht, Kalina and Adam are thrust together as they escape their captors and end up washing up on a deserted island. There, they must forget their differences and learn to trust each other in order to survive. As the days pass and hopes for rescue fade, emotions run high and Kalina and Adam realise they may not be so different after all.
Despite the shaky start, Kalina and Adam quickly endeared themselves to me as I followed their adventures on the island. As we learn more about the characters' pasts, I sympathised with both and I loved how Daniel's developed the characters and proved that first impressions aren't always reliable, something both I, the reader, and the characters quickly realised.
ISLAND ESCAPE may be a novella but it was wonderfully developed and gave a real sense of the world and the characters. Despite its short length, it tugged at the heartstrings and definitely stirred my emotions.
Sexy and sweet, ISLAND ESCAPE is a story of survival and love with plenty of twists and thrills to keep you wanting more.
When Adam, a deckhand and Kalina, the girlfriend of a billionaire, are stranded at sea and then fight for survival on a deserted island after the ship they were on is taken over by modern day pirates, it is like an adult version of the Blue Lagoon with a bit of the mystery of Lost.
I appreciated how the author made everything very realistic and didn't make it so fluffy and corny that it would have been unbelievable.
What happens to these two on the island was life changing for both of them, but what happens when they end up back in civilization was the true test of whether or not people can really re-invent themselves based on what they experience.
I look forward to the next book in the series as it continues on with the whole away from civilization theme but from a completely different set of eyes...someone who knows nothing about the other world out there.
**** 4 **** "yours always" stars
