Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

A tale of the secret diplomacy in the Arab-Israeli conflict. Posner focuses on violence and terrorism employed by the Palestinians in their quest for nationhood, and on inter-communal violence in the Middle East in general and more specifically in Lebanon. He treats the little-known Circassion community in Jordan, that community's role in the Arab-Israeli conflict, the Sadat peace initiative, and the role of the United States in seeking a peaceful resolution of the civil war in Lebanon. A good book to gain a perspective on contemporary diplomacy and Middle East politics. Well recommended. Sanford R. Silverburg, Catawba Coll., Salisbury, N.C.

Top Customer Reviews

By Reviewer on January 15, 2010
Format: Hardcover
"Posner is a fair, unbiased writer. His book is highly readable, accessible to someone without intimate background knowledge . . . useful in its bringing together pieces of an intriguing puzzle of spies, warfare, and diplomacy . . . reads more like a thriller than a history book."
- - The Kirkus Reviews

"The author has covered this intricate fabric of intelligence activities with a sophistication and objectivity not common in this particular field. The book will be a useful contribution to scholars and historians craving a little solid information about the mysterious Middle East."
- - Dr. Ray S. Cline, Former CIA Deputy Director for Intelligence

"Israel Undercover is a fascinating account of a neglected aspect of the Arab-Israeli conflict."
- - Dr. Bruce Hoffman, Terrorism Expert, Security & Subnational Conflict, The Rand Corporation

"The story [of a Jordanian spy who worked for the Mossad], which has the ring of truth, makes riveting reading . . . Posner's subsequent review of the secret meetings between King Hussein and various Israeli leaders--Yigal Allon, Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres--during the past two and a half decades is useful and enlightening."
- - Los Angeles Times

"The author has captured the dynamics of the Middle East, the continually exciting story occurring there, and the forces and counterforces at work, especially those normally out of public view . . . His original contribution is a public presentation of the extent and quality of Israel's hidden diplomacy and what it shows about the ability of seemingly irreconcilable foes to cooperate . . . The importance of this book is demonstrated almost daily in the news from the Middle East.
