I started off using this book to learn Italian, by itself. The book is good for that purpose. It explains how to pronounce the words, and it comes with a CD to let you listen to the words. Plus, with the internet being as prevalent as it is, any words which are not pronounced on CD can easily be found online to listen to. Furthermore, it walks you through the basics of grammar, to build up from simple nouns, to more complicated verb conjugations.

As with any product designed to learn a language, it will take time, and dedication, and lots of working through the vocabulary, and grammar concepts. However, the book gives plenty of exercises to help you build up your competency, and also builds up a solid vocabulary foundation, working frequently through new words, and reinforcing old words.

After working with this product for a while, though, I found it worked incredibly well as a supplement for Rosetta Stone, or another similar product. I know that not everyone will have easy access to Rosetta Stone, and this is not intended to discourage use of Italian DeMystified by itself, but for those who can, this product, plus Rosetta Stone, work amazingly well together.

Rosetta Stone is intended to be an immersion software, and does a great job of teaching vocabulary, but I find that when new grammar concepts are introduced on Rosetta Stone, then this book is my turn to source to discover how that grammar works, and better understand the sentences I am seeing.

In other words, if you are using an immersion style software, get this book for it's value in understanding the grammar. If you are using this book alone, it will probably still be sufficient.

I'm trying to learn Italian and this is, by far, one of the best language books I own (I must own a dozen and three audio versions!). Most of the others focus on stuff for tourists (i.e., directions, times, formalities, etc.). This cuts through all that to offer more regarding conversation between two (or more) individuals. HIGHLY recommend!

I bought this book to review Italian, and to maybe finally learn some of the grammar that didn't sink in in my Italian classes. This book is perfect for that. The explanations are clear, the examples apt. I have the Kindle edition and it's the reason I don't give it 5 stars. The tables are a useful and necessary part of the book, but in the Kindle edition they are small and hard to read. It's not easy to enlarge them--they seem to be separate from the main text. Otherwise, I would recommend this book highly.

This book was required for an Italian class I took and it has been quite helpful. I like the fact that the quiz answers are included so I can check my progress (if any :)).

Living in Italy for 3 years due to the military, and ordered this book in addition to actually taking a language class, great supplement. I like the way it's laid out, and the exercises are pretty good. I haven't used the audio CD's, so can't comment on them, but the book is a great tool for getting the basics down.

I really enjoy working through this book. It is well set out and organised for a rat rather classroom-like learning experience. If you want to learn more than just memorising phrases, then this is the place to start.
