One issue I have with the book is the vocabulary lists at the end of each chapter. The lists are valuable, and they include not just words, but phrases. The issue is that sometimes it's hard to tell if the phrase is just a literal translation of the text to aid comprehension, or if it is an idiomatic phrase that one should pay special attention to because it's used in everyday Italian.
The stories are engagin, not trivial, and I feel just a little bit enriched upon completing each one.

The tales were varied - which helped; but it has to be said that in some of them "suspension of disbelief" was an essential element as they did not hold together as literature. But having said that, this book was not supposed to be a great, well-crafted literary epic. It was intended to help learn Italian, and contained a lot of very useful material.
I would certainly recommend it.
