"...a piece of classic garden literature." ~Italian Cooking & Living

"Wharton combines garden and travel writing from a true insider's perspective with descriptive mastery of what she terms the "garden-magic" of Italy." ~Southern Accents

My sister read about this book in a recent magazine and we are totally delighted to see that it was available as a reprint from the original plates. Maxfield Parrish, the painter, did the illustrations and they are wonderful in their dreamlike qualities. And the prose by Ms Wharton are flowing and typical of the turn of the last century.

I would recommend this book as a coffe table book, a piece of art and a conversation piece all in one.

This is a beautiful book and it's my own fault for not reading the description in a detailed enough manner. I was hoping for a vintage book and read the title "The original 1904 edition" this way. The jacket, illustrations and print are attractive and conversation worthy, I'm just disappointed at how it was listed and what seems like an omission. I'll have to decide whether to send it back.

A lovely reproduction by Rizzoli and The Mount Press. I am very satisfied by this work, especially the dust jacket in brocaded damask fabric covering th gold gilding on the title front book cover. What a nice surprise!!!! The Maxfield Parrish illustraton show nicely; the type font is a photographic copy along with the page numbers which are not so vivid as in the original, but this is very fine quality, exquisite workmanship. I get a little giddy when I hold and read the original in the library of my local, public art gallery; If I had a frist priting I would sleep with it under my pillow..I just keep this copy on my bedside table.
