This book radically changed the human dimension of my daily encounters with fellow citizens. Shah’s lucid analysis will open your eyes to a huge social injustice and then startle you with a simple and elegant solution that would immediately improve the lives of millions. Once in a while, you read a book and then you go and buy copies for all your friends with a personal note to act. It’s About TIME is one of these rare books.
Chairman, Digital Ethos Foundation
It’s About TIME opened my eyes to how performing a routine business process has been causing unnecessary financial duress to a majority of my workforce. On behalf of the 90 million people in America living paycheck to paycheck, and particularly those for which I am responsible, thank you for showing me a better path moving forward.
President, Bickford Senior Living
It’s About TIME is an important and engaging look at the current way workers are paid, and a call for a systems change to improve the financial well-being of the millions of workers living paycheck to paycheck in our society. An outstanding conscious capitalist, Safwan is creating positive change and inviting everyone else to do the same.

About the Author
An engineer by training and entrepreneur by accident, Safwan is the founder and CEO of PayActiv. After selling a previous company and committing to his golf game, Safwan pulled himself out of retirement to launch PayActiv and level the playing field for the financially vulnerable. Safwan's work connects the dots between math, economics, history, and music. His first book, It's About TIME: How Businesses Can Save the World (One Worker at a Time), turns conventional wisdom on its head and calls for businesses to embrace the mantle of saving the world.

Here's the thing...it is about time that we consider what time means to those who have less, who are working like mad to just keep their heads above water, and who consistently make the world run and operate. We have gotten lazy in our unwillingness to innovate on behalf of our employees and I want that to change. So does the author.
This book is history lesson, cultural guidebook, and a math textbook rolled into one. All while telling us to move the world towards improved lives for all...not just for those of us who have the privilege of higher education and the luck of birth location/family. It's about time that we think about how others live and figure out how to get them what they need in order to alleviate stress and desperation. Safwan's book helps us understand how we got here and encourages us on the path to a better future for everyone.
Today, almost all business processes are done in real time, using off-the-shelf interactive technologies. The biggest exception to this would be payroll systems, which still operate in the “batch processing” mode, originally pioneered by banks back in the 19th Century to ensure the correct crediting of their customers’ deposits and withdrawals.
But why, you might ask, would a business even want to pay its workers any faster, anyway? I mean, they’re just workers, they’re not customers. They’re used to waiting until payday to get the money they’ve earned over the last week or two, or four.
Safwan Shah would beg to differ. Safwan is the inspirational founder of PayActiv, a Certified B Corporation that is almost single-handedly popularizing the idea of REAL TIME wage access – allowing businesses to bring their employees into the 21st Century along with vendors and customers.
And Safwan Shah is also the closest thing to a genuine “Renaissance Man” that I’ve ever encountered. He is a remarkably knowledgeable and well-read polymath, with a keen interest in many different fields. Not that other business people aren’t well-read and eclectic in their interests. But consider that Safwan’s PhD thesis, in the field of aerospace engineering no less, involved tracking how neurons communicate with organs and tissues. Safwan has thought carefully about why the invention of calculus changed our conception of time. And he reveres the wisdom of the Renaissance philosopher Michel de Montaigne.
You won’t be able to read It’s About TIME without being amazed and entertained by the analogies, anecdotes, interesting stories and historical truths that Safwan has woven into it. But when it comes to his discussion of the financial situation faced by today’s wage-earning employees, you’ll also be moved.
And if you’re a business manager – well, it’s about time.
This book is an engaging read. Shah’s own personal voice and narrative style lets us into his life. His transparency and vulnerability provide us an argument that is not only rational but also empathetic. This is an important book because it provides an example of how conscious capitalism can address our social ills.
