I was finally able to get my hands on this book. It's fairly useful, although much of what it has to say falls under the category of common sense. However, it offers some very solid advice on the kinds of luggage you should get. It also has some useful advice for "miniaturizing" everything you travel with. For my travels, I ended up needing to take a little more with me, so I did end up checking my baggage, which she isn't wild about. Many of her recommendations ended up being fairly accurate as I continued my travels. The one thing is that she is *not* geared towards backpacking, so she generally excludes items, such as towels, that are a must unless you are planning on staying at hotels the whole time. (TOWEL TIP: I thought I would need a full-sized towel when travelling, so that I could wrap it around my waist to go from public shower to my room. Instead, I generally ended up changing where the showers were, so next time I'll probably bring a smaller towel, as a full-sized towel takes up a lot of precious space.)

If you make your own clothing, she has recommendations on travel clothing you can make. As a woman, her chapter on clothing for women is a lot more informative (can't be 100% sure, as I'm a guy), but her chapter for men, while covering the basics, doesn't have much in the way of new information. Where she really shines is in her recommendations for travelling fabrics -- what material, and what colors and designs your clothes should have. She also stressed doing your own laundry, although in my experience this was only convenient for t-shirts and underwear.

It's not that expensive of a book, but if you can find it in your library or used, I'd get it that way. It's not the kind of book that you're going to go back to again and again, unless you travel very frequently.

I ordered this book and requested a written comment by the author to personalize the book and to take a jab at my family for teasing me about my packing. Ms. DesChamps graciously agreed to write the note--which was met with laughter and disbelief. I received the book within a week of ordering it. I have not finished reading the book or tried the recommendations, as I just got it, but it has been a great purchase so far! I am very pleased!
