Review

Talk about a book that turned my thinking around! From the beginning of the introduction, author Mary Sheehan Warren had my attention.... Bravo! I ve never seen a more comprehensive, personally applicable book on style. I enthusiastically recommend It s So You! to three groups of people: women in general, co-op teachers (there is some great material here to form the basis of a style class for young teen girls), and mothers of daughters. --Kathy Gelzer, The Old Schoolhouse magazine

About the Author

MARY SHEEHAN WARREN has helped hundreds of women escape from fashion futility. A mother of five, she is the founder of Elegance in Style and Success in Style, sister organizations that provide fashion advice to women from all walks of life. She lives with her family in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

If you've been wistfully watching Stacy and Clinton's fashion makeover show on TLC wishing you could have a wardrobe makeover too, then get this book and give yourself a makeover!

There are actually simple rules you can learn to make yourself turn out looking great too--camouflaging your trouble spots and looking great overall! Stacy and Clinton don't just come up with their rules out of thin air--they use the rules as described in this book regarding body shape (not body SIZE--that's irrelevant), color, and fashion personality.

For Pete's sake, you're not doomed to come out of the process looking drab if you don't want to look drab! The author shows you how to use your body shape and coloring (hair and skin) as a basis for choosing clothing that fits YOUR personality. Put all together, you come out looking great and FEELING MORE LIKE YOURSELF (hence the title of the book).

You're not left with just words to try to figure all this out. The book is filled with illustrations to SHOW you what the author is talking about. For example, on pages 127 and 128, there are four illustrations that show how given the same body shape and coloring, you can dress to exude any of the four fashion personalities: "relaxed," "classic," "romantic," or "expressive."

AND you don't have to figure out ANY of this (body shape, coloring, fashion personality) on your own! The book contains questionnaires that will, when completed, tell you what you are.

AND the author tells you how to get all this on ANY budget!

At the end of the process, your closet will contain only things you'll love to wear and you'll wear everything in your closet. I purged my closet within hours of reading that part of the book and now I love to look at my closet filled only with things that fit me and that look good on me. I didn't even buy anything new, so it cost me $0. But when it's time to buy something new, I know exactly what I'm looking for.

I went through the program for a mommy makeover in Faith and Family magazine. The principles she outlines definitely made me look better (right after childbirth). I love shopping scientifically and not wasting my time and money on the wrong items. A fun read too! Am buying some copies for my sisters and friends.

Since I've made over my wardrobe using Mary Warren's easy steps, great things have happened: friends ask me if I've lost weight, I have more outfits to wear because they mix and match (I really like looking in my closet now), and I'm not spending all this money on clothes I don't really like. Buy her book--it's an investment you'll love.

I don't like to shop - I don't have time to shop. I don't trust the "fashion experts" - they all have something to sell. I want more then just wearing clothes - I want to dress with style and flair. But how do I weed through all that is out there? Mary Sheehan Warren's book "It's So You" has answered all my fashion questions. Reading her book is like having an engaging, lively and fun conversation with someone you trust - I feel like I have my own personal shopper right at my side.

I can now walk into a store and in an instant pick through which styles and colors work for me and which ones to pass over. Dressing to my body type and personal style allows me to spend less time and money on clothing and have a more interesting, fun, yet professional wardrobe. Best yet it is a wardrobe that is tailored to me and people notice.

Thanks Mary for taking women seriously and providing us with a tool that allows us to be taken more serious.

This book was recommended to me as part of a fashion consultation I made with a professional fashion consultant. I had never read a book like it before ever. I'd have to read through hundreds of fashion magazines for decades before I would find all the wonderful tips that this book contains all in one place, and even then I wouldn't. I've doggy-flapped, highlighted and underlined the pages. The book's main message has changed my life - my new attitude is now not to look for "beautiful clothes" but to look for clothes that bring out the beauty in ME (i.e., colors and fabrics and clothing fits that complement me) and that bring attention to my eyes (as opposed to any other part of my body). For this reason, you'll find this book sometimes in Christian bookstores because it offers wonderful, alternative, chastity-promoting advice to a woman looking for something more than what she sees in Bazaar, Vogue, People, etc. ALL THIS TO SAY, I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! And I've gotten more complements in the past year since I've read this book than I've ever gotten in my life.

Thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Warren's book. Her suggestions are very practical, fun, and witty. I have used her suggestions and guess what...after cleaning out my closet per her suggestion I feel like I have a lot more to wear. I just know how to put it all together so much better. I am a much smarter shopper as well. She has taken all the angst and stress out of my shopping experience. I am able to eliminate a lot of clothing just by its style or color. It saves a lot of time and money. If you need a little help to jazz up your wardrobe and look a little more hip and young I highly recommend this book.
