About the Author

Kim Hales is the founder of Open Door Press, Inc. and the author of the children's book series Life's Little Lessons by Ellie the Wiener Dog.

After a career in the corporate business world, she was inspired to return to her passion for story and art, by of all things - her wiener dog. Shortly after Ellie came into her life, Kim picked up a yellow note pad and began writing humorous stories and doodles about the daily problems and perils of being a ''wiener dog.''

As the number of stories grew so did Kim's desire to share ''Life's Little Lessons'' with the world. She established Open Door Press to do just that.

Kim lives in Southern California with her husband, her muse Ellie the Wienerdog, and Ellie's little sisters, Ruby and Pepper.

I'm not a pet fan and this book is written by an unapologetic pet dog enthusiast. I felt like I was going to read a love letter to someone's Weiner dog. What I wasn't expecting was a hilarious and cute story about a dog who has a REALLLLLLLY hard time with temptation.

Such a cute little book! Ellie the wiener dog loves being praised, of course. But the temptation to do wrong is sometimes overwhelming. This book has gorgeous and engaging illustrations, full of color and life. Children will love it, as will their parents and grandparents.

Review:

What an adorable children’s book. Ellie is a wiener dog who tries very hard to be good. She really does not want to do bad things and her favorite thing to hear is that she is “good girl”. But sometimes that is not an easy thing to do. Will she resist the sandwich in the kitchen and do the right thing?

The words used in this book are age appropriate and easy for a young child to understand. There is a lesson, not only for Ellie, but for a child as well, to learn: that good behavior is rewarded in some way with positive reinforcement. The illustrations are bright, vivid and colorful and added a lot to the story.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading a cute book to their child. If you own a wiener dog (two miniature wiener dogs in our house), you may enjoy the book even more. This book would be a great addition to any home or school library.
