He has been privileged to work alongside some of the `cream of the crop,' and just so you'll read to find out whom; I am not saying.
His life's journey has been littered with personal hardships, which Steve generously shares unabashedly; including his own mothers disdain. Often encouraging us, as he paints a portrait of a painfully neglected boy to the hauntingly funny comedian he is today he quips, that if we can "make it through his life...then, we can make it through ours."
I highly recommend Steve's book, as a welcome delight for any comedian, entertainer, writer, journeymen, Hospice caregiver, or average Dick and Jane's library.
"It's So Hard to Type With a Gun In My Mouth" is an incredibly poignant book which made me laugh, cry, feel and think, sometimes all at the same time and for that I commend the author.
So many books today in my opinion are good but they don't make you feel and think like this one does, possibly because it's written with such a rare openness and honesty that it draws you in and makes you want to read it which I did in one sitting OR because it just an outright amazing book.
I originally purchased it in hardback but a friend borrowed it so i've just re-purchased it so I could read it again, it is that good.
This book is now on my Christmas List to give to others so they can enjoy it as much as I did and maybe they'll stop borrowing my copy.
Please continue to write more books, Mr Bluestein, we could all use more like this, I know I could.
Buy the book and read it, you won't regret it.
It's So Hard To Type With A Gun In My Mouth
Trust me, this guy is no slouch or wannabe. Bluestein has been the opening act for high-end performers like Diana Ross to Barry Manilow as well as a headliner in comedy clubs all around the world, and he takes you behind-the-scenes with many of the luminaries he worked for and cavorted with during his long and fruitful career.
He also reveals a great deal about the man behind the laughs, and it isn't all puppies and daffodils. He recounts his painful relationship with his unsupportive and deeply critical mother and demonstrates how he managed to rise above the adversity he encountered to fashion his own road to success on his own unique terms. You can't help but be inspired by his journey.
It's So Hard to Type With a Gun in My Mouth was originally a collection of blog entries which Bluestein adapted into book form, but there's a natural and organic flow to it that makes this a seriously entertaining read. You will definitely laugh, you might even cry, but you won't regret having made Steve Bluestein's acquaintance. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
