I enjoyed reading the book from start to finish. This is the first book that I read in its entirety in a very long time. I could not put it down and read it everywhere. I thoroughly enjoyed the rawness of DJ Disco Wiz and how his life was told without holding back. I can picture the different scenes through out the book coming to life.
If you love hip hop or are just interested to learn about the pioneers and how the movement was started, please buy this book. You won't be disappointed.
Thank you for reading this post and hope it helps.
in a lot of ways it's my story. i grew up in the same craziness that was the boogie down bronx of the 70's and 80's. so i witnessed much of the same reality. to read about it so eloquently expressed...it's what makes it my favorite cuz it's the closest i've read to mine (yet to be put 2 paper...hehe). it's like when we first saw 'wild style' or 'beat street', that was our story up there. as i read this book i felt much the same way.
it's just a riveting tale that keeps u wanting to know more. it's a great story and it's well told. tho' i don't know the brother personally, what i do know is that this gentleman is a soldier, a veteran of the war in the streets of our cities that goes on to this day. they say all of us that grow up in the inner city streets suffer from post-traumatic stress syndrome. this brother grew up and out of that in such an inspiring way.
then on top of being this great story about this gentleman's life coming up in the hard streets of the bronx. he's an originator of hiphop culture and thus gives us an insight into the birth of a movement that has taken over the planet. they did a tremendous job of relaying what it was like at those first jams. took me waaaay back. and it's important, for me anyway, to know some details about these pioneers. biggest problem with hiphop and all the rest of modern cultures, is forgetting to give props to the ancients, the elders, the originators of what we live.Read more ›
His book is a song of the unsung, caliing out to the thousands of kids who search for direction and adults who've suffered for years from violent hands. Wiz was that lost boy, and was that traumatized adult. His harrowing story makes his kindness, generosity and wisdom that much more remarkable. See Wiz mentor a troubled teen and you'll understand caring. See him perform on stage and you'll understand passion and innovation. Read his book and you'll understand tenacity and hope.
The story of DJ Disco Wiz isn't over. His life has just begun.
The book is guaranteed to endorse a positive change in anyone that is truly dedicated to talking the talk and walking the walk as Wiz had to do on his quest to finding his inner peace on earth.
Warning: All Avid Book readers, you will need a box of Kleenex to finish this book! You will feel his pain, struggles, Will Power, success, etc ... as he takes us on an emotional joyride, which concludes with a sense of peace and a smile on your face.
