Zach Galifianakis, Keir Gilchrist, Lauren Graham and Emma Roberts star in this uplifting comedy about finding sanity in the most unlikely of places. Sometimes what’s in your head isn’t as crazy as you think…that’s certainly true for Craig (Gilchrist), a stressed-out teenager who checks himself into a mental health clinic for some time out. What he finds instead is an unlikely mentor (Galifianakis), a potential new romance (Roberts) and an opportunity to begin anew. Charming, witty and smart, it’s a coming-of-age story that’s kind of a funny story…

At the conclusion, if your eyes are not wet from both the human story being told as well as the comedy, something is seriously wrong. Get help.
We live a in world where we're under so much pressure to perform that we have lost site of what makes us truly happy. We're just focused on results not the interesting and messy journey along the way.
I have watched this movie several times with my kids and husband to remind me of what my job as a parent truly is...and that is to protect, guide and support the light inside my child until they are capable of taking on that responsibility themselves. The movie is a reminder to not live your life through your child, but to allow them the opportunity to find their own passions with my support and love.
The acting is amazing and I can't say enough great things about this very quirky film.
If you're looking for wild, funny, movie about crazy people, you will be disappointed. There is comedy and humor, but it is loosely used in the context of patients with typical mental disorders. If you want to know what it's like in a short-term psychiatric secure ward in a hospital, this movie will give you a softened idea about the environment, routines, patients and the staff. It shows how far mental health treatment has come from One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest and the Titicut Follies.
Zach Galifianakis shines in his role and, in my honest opinion, is the highlight of the entire movie. The blooper reels in the bonus features of this movie are hilarious and show Zach at his best in improvisation of his role.
If you like heartwarming stories, those that are genuine and simple, I think you'll really enjoy this film. I would also highly recommend reading the book.
