Ending compulsive sexual behavior is just the beginning.
Drawing on personal and professional experience, psychotherapist Andrew Susskind examines issues such as shame, grief, narcissism, and codependency to demonstrate how people use out-of-control sexual behavior to cope with brokenheartedness and trauma. He offers strategies to cultivate sustainable sexual sobriety, sharing his own healing narrative, as well as those of others who’ve chosen to bare their truths. No one is ever too hurt or isolated to achieve reliable relationships and emotional intimacy. This is a guidebook for every person seeking long-term healing from sex addiction.

Review
"Susskind provides a roadmap for living life to its fullest while healing from this debilitating addiction." ―Robert Weiss, Author of Sex Addiction 101
"As daunting as recovery can seem, this book helps readers gain a sense of calm by recognizing key issues that will move them forward in their lives."―Claudia Black, PhD, author of Deceived and Intimate Treason
"Going beyond current tension around out-of-control sexual behaviors, such as whether we should link sexual compulsivity to a pathologizing, disease-oriented model, Susskind addresses the need for humans to learn how to connect, love, and thrive in intimate relationships."―Patti Britton, PhD, MPH, clinical sexologist, sex coach, and author of The Art of Sex Coaching

My orientation for recovery is a 12 step model with clinical additions. Very quickly I came to see that this book fit that model.
This book, like any good book of its type, can be read across any obsessive disease. You can center on sex addiction, cooccurring diagnoses, or opioid use disorder with the same level of application.
The title informs that sex is only symptom of underlying causes.
These underlying causes trigger sexual compulsions and/or substance use, emotional, behavioral obsessions. A feature of the text that makes it pragmatic is a series of action steps at the end of each chapter which help to shed practical light on the work involved.
Susskind cuts across the clinical grain by freely disclosing personal stories. This disclosing has been a staple of 12 step work which builds rapport with any suffer of like minded ilk. It serves to the make the book more human and heartfelt vs theoretical. And as some of us know a real fix is what we need not some iffy theory.
Thank you very much Mr. Susskind. Much appreciated.
