Romantic comedy with some thought provoking life lessons delivered by fun, romantic, but realistically flawed characters. Is it predictable, a little, but it's also very well written with contemporary themes, uplifting and pure fun to read. I just bought two extra copies to give away and then bought all of Mhairi McFarlane's other books.

Delia and Paul are getting celebrating their 10th anniversary. And Delia proposes. Paul reluctantly accepts. And then Delia finds out he's been cheating...

She decides to move to London to stay with her best friend Emma while she regroups and figures out what she wants. And while she's there she finds herself and remembers who she used to be.

The title has the obvious implication. But after reading the book, I felt like it was also about remembering who you were before a relationship. And seeing how much of yourself you've lost while trying to be part of a team. And then trying to figure out if you can have both the you you are and the relationship.

As with off of Mhairi's books (pronounced Vah-ree if you're wondering), there is a strong female lead, a great best friend, an interesting family dynamic and lots of laughs. I continue to be a fan of her work

I was looking for an easy read romantic comedy and I really enjoyed this writers style. The ending was predictable as these stories tend to be but I was not expecting to be surprised. My main criticism is that the book could have been 25 percent shorter since it dragged to make a point at times and I found myself skimming through pages at times. What I thought the main focus of the story would be seemed to all together disappear which was kind of odd.

I'd not read Mhairi McFarlene's work before, but someone recommended her to me and I'm very pleased they did! This is classic British chick lit at its best, a tale of a young woman who thinks she wants one thing but actually needs something altogether different. If I had to characterize her work, I'd say McFarlane writes a grittier version of a Sophie Kinsella story, but with the same easy-reading style and relatability that makes it hard to put her books down. In It's Not Me it's You things start out pretty grim for poor Delia, who is a thoroughly likable and relatable character. She lacks in self-confidence and has plenty of wool pulled over her eyes. That is until she manages to spot the sunlight peaking through, and then pushes that wool right away to rise up as a new, improved version of herself. Thoroughly satisfying! I found this story sad at times, with an easy-going and gentle humor, but ultimately uplifting. Recommended for fans of classic British chick lit.

What a fun story! Mhairi McFarlane can really write and this story pulls you in right from the beginning. I found myself marveling at the fact that I was reading about the heroine's boring job without being bored myself -- well done! The dialogue is good and while the story isn't a new one (girl betrayed, goes to a new town and grows up and realizes she can stand on her own. And of course, finds a new love!) it is done in such a way that it was fun, intelligent, and felt fresh. There are funny moments and funny asides and a nice tone to the whole book that made it a joy to read. I still think Ms McFarlane's "Here's looking at you" was her best so far but this was good too. The reason for 4 stars vs 5 is that I found the last quarter of the book to be a bit slow --not so slow that I put the book down -- and since it was arguably the most important part of the story I was sorry about that. But in all, this was good, the author is a good writer and is definitely now on my auto-buy list!

I fell in love with this author's work when I read HEAR'S LOOKING AT YOU and made sure to read this as well. It lived up to her other two.
Her books look at relationships between flawed human beings. At the beginning of this one the female lead asks her very long term boyfriend to marry her. I am always puzzled by relationships that do not move forward nor do they end. That was what this couple was living. It was obviously stagnant but neither recognized it. When her boyfriend hesitated at her proposal the hidden cracks began to show. He had been having an affair. She leaves their home for a short stay in London. The friend she visits wants her to stay and so she does. What she runs into are people with no business scruples and a man determined to expose them. She becomes embroiled in the good guys vs the bad guys and tries to make sense of a life turned upside down. London has its own personality. Her boyfriend tries to reconcile and she still loves him but his deceit makes her capitulation iffy. This book really fits no genre other than fiction. There are....a love story, criminals, corrupt politicians, great friendships, a very unusual/nerdy/sweet natured brother, regretful sweethearts and London. Pick a genre. It probably fits.

Delia is living her boring, whitebread life when a shocking turn of events sends her into a tailspin. To cope, she accepts her good friend's invitation to escape for a while to the friend's flat in London. Delia soon has a job working for a slimeball publicist whose scummy tactics push her closer and closer to the edge. If she doesn't learn to stand up for herself, Delia will become just as corrupt, and in the bigger picture, she needs to start making her own rules and stop letting life push her around.

This story has so many laughs in it, it borders on slapstick, but it's also unlikely and odd. I did like the romance story, there are heartwarming subplots, and the dramatic tension is well-done. Love and Ethics triumph in the end, but it's a convoluted journey.

I thought I was delving into a typical Brit Chick Lit, but was quickly surprised to find a novel with an interesting plot and well developed characters. There was even a bit of a mystery and I was not quite sure about how it would all turn out...or e en how I wanted it to turn out. I have since purchased more books by this delightful writer.

I loved Adam and Delia! That ending was just THE BOMB! as my grand-nieces would say!!! The story is a bit overly long, but Delia has a lot of growing to do, and London is just the place to do it in!

McFarlane is the BOSS of great endings. I've read many a book where the storytelling was utterly stellar, but the ending floundered about. McFarlane's HEAs usually leave us readers with just enough to fuel our own imaginations. The only McFarlane ending thus far that I take issue with was in Who's That Girl?. Come on now! I wanted to see him come in the door and sweep her off her feet!!! I say: if McFarlane can write a novella sequel for You Had me at Hello, she should give us a treat and continue that cute story!

No complaints here. It's Not Me, It's You had a ravishing ending! I have to say, Adam had me totally fooled, and towards the end, when he finally "pounced" I was "awwwwwing" for quite some time! Loved it!

É um bom livro para se ler nas férias, bem escrito, bastante imaginativo, com bons personagens e tiradas inteligentes. O senão seria o fim, um pouco forçado. Mas recomendo como leitura divertida.

Mhairi McFarlane never disappoints me. Her stories weave a tale around its main characters that is interesting, enticing and believable. Her humour brings life to the characters and the situations they find themselves in. I loved all the personalities and the endings are always worth waiting for.
