- Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2021This is a beautiful book, written by a thoughtful and talented writer. Even the illustrations are incredibly intentional. If you are looking for a lighter way to have a heavy conversation with your children, this is perfect for you. We love it at my house (my kids are 6 and 4).
Reading these reviews, I am heartbroken and a bit infuriated. As a fellow writer, I know Danielle professionally, and I have tremendous respect for her. Because of this, I’ve had the chance to get to know her well. I can say without hesitation that the author is an empathetic and compassionate human being, who spends all her time putting good out into the world.
Unfortunately, it looks like someone drastically misunderstood a share by a well-known figure on social media, setting off a wave of trolling and unnecessary, completely unfounded cruelty. (Not everything you see on the internet is true.) Please understand: a writer can’t be held responsible for the opinions or behaviors or offenses of every individual who shares her work. And shares do not equal partnerships. What’s important to know is that a lovely person is behind this book. The comments do not reflect her character and integrity.
5 stars out of 5 — and that rating is well-deserved
- Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2022I LOVE this book. I have bipolar disorder and needed something to explain to my child that depression is a normal thing that many people live with. This book explained it's okay to have strong, inabilitating feelings. It's okay to dwell in those and reach out to our loved ones for help and there's nothing to be worried about, it's just apart of this crazy life. This book explains this from different angles, ages and perceptions. She even cried while reading because it spoke to her. She's 6...
- Reviewed in the United States on March 16, 2023Beautiful story that gently narrates that it is okay to have big feelings, even grown-ups do. No one is perfect and feelings shouldn’t be repressed or hidden. Adults can model and give children a blueprint as to how to cope with such feelings. This can be a difficult subject to navigate, but Sherman-Lazar has crafted a great story to help guide us along.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 23, 2023I really loved this. It helped my toddler better understand why I was having big emotions through a second pregnancy. I also loved the talk of a therapist being okay. Normalizing things. I loved the message that you should always talk to your parents about big emotions. Already recommended to my friends.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2024It has a great message! I love the illustrations! I like how it gives simple examples of when grownups have big feelings too. It is a little long. So, more of a 7-8 year old child read. But a great book!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2022I dislike that there isn't options for families that don't have a traditional family. Same sex parents, 1 parent homes, etc. But it's great for those who do. I think it would have helped my son understand more about feeling, especially having a mom that suffers from multiple mental health issues.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2022Written so simple with great understanding.. love the pictures too. Parents have feelings too and I’m glad author addressed them explaining to a child how to deal with them.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 28, 2023The author did a great job portraying adult feelings in an easy to understand context for children. It was even uplifting for me as I read it to my kids. I’ve always struggled with explaining mental health in an age appropriate manner and this book really helped with that!

Lovely story
LukCReviewed in Canada on December 18, 20225.0 out of 5 stars grownups need help too
With Covid/influenza variants giving hassles for families global in recent, found it good read for kids & parents to discuss theme on depression. While not absolute solution, discussing about feelings definitely huge step to help reaching that goal.
