The plot was interesting and fairly fast-paced, though at times there was too many paragraphs of Ivory just thinking that got a bit boring. Her entire relationship with Blitz was just frustrating! And it would sometimes jump POV in the middle of passages which was hard to keep up with.
Ivory, the queen of the daylight people is a very dark and violent character. She's the best warrior and something in her likes killing. She has no friends, and is really a hard person to empathize with, even when shown kindness and care, she's resentful and angry. Toward the end of this book, she finds out some life altering truths, but she acts like nothing is different. I will be interested to see where the author goes with her as far as development. It's one thing to be tough, but it's another to admit when you're wrong and grow from that.
Heat factor mild.
The main character Ivory was such a strong female lead! I wish there were more books, movies, TV that created strong female characters like Sherrill did here. Ivory was a strong yet flawed character that felt real. The whole concept of "the curse" was original and captivating. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but this book will blow you away. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a great summer read!
The female lead has her faults but she's smart and strong, even if a bit set in her ways. The lead male characters are just as interesting and different in their own ways....and a little rivalry between a couple of lead male characters doesn't hurt!
The world that F.M. creates though is fascinating with a rich history that is easy to jump right into and understand. And the mysteries surround this creation will keep you guessing and reading.
The end does leave you wanting more but I'm just hoping there's more to this fantastic story and that their adventures aren't over just quite yet.
This is definitely an action packed thrill ride that any fantasy reader would enjoy!
I love the strong female lead too, honestly she's bad-ass. I think she'd give a lot of other characters in regular fantasy novels a run for their money. She's like Samus (from Metroid, and if you don't know Metroid then you'll miss the brilliance of this novel's stlye) or Starbuck (Battlestar Galactica).
The story is set in a sort of, present tense, happening now, fashion. Very cool. It made all the action super intense and gripping. The visuals still stayed with me for a while after. Very haunting...
