My first requirement was that I wanted a stove made of durable material, because all I saw online and in stores looked so weak and they would not resist so long. This stove looks quite sturdy and consistent.
My second requirement was a quality burner, almost all stoves are defective and they happen to give uneven flame. When testing this stove the flame was perfectly symmetrical and abundant.
My last requirement was the compartiment where it is placed the canister, it is important that the canister receives controlled heat, otherwise the canister get cool and the flame decreases to almost nothing. This stove comes with a aluminum flap that heat slightly the canister allowing gas flow constant.
The stove also comes with a case, it is not very durable but it will resist if you use it kindly.
One thing to consider is the brand of this stove, I wanted to compare prices at stores that sell Iwatani but I couldn't find the model. However, all models offered were above $100 and I assure you that this stove had everything they have.
I still have to try cooking something, I go camping soon, I will make an update of this review with more information.
July 11th: Review of my review
I went camping, this stove still has 5 stars! excellent product I am in love with it. I had no issues, this stove has a great flame, I cooked pasta and water boiled in 2 minutes!! 100% recommended.
This is perfect for when you're missing Japan on a gloomy evening and just want to make some delicious hotpot right at the table instead of spending your time in the kitchen.
1. The electric start on this unit initially didn't work. The spark generator thingy is a bit loose from the crimped metal holder that is supposed to hold it in place. This shouldn't be the case on something that is supposed to be top of the line. I solved the issue by pushing the starter forward until the clicking attempts lit the burner.... after I had no hair left on my finger, subsequent attempts were done with the tip of a knife... silly me. Butane bottles get eaten up much more quickly than lower BTU units.. .as to be expected. I did perk coffee 3 times (12 cups from cold water) & 3 dinner cooking sessions of about 30 minutes each and it ate the can. Not bad.. especially for not having to wait as long for coffee!!! For most cooking, using this at full blast is silly and you will probably burn things. Even frying fish half submerged in oil, I had to keep this thing closer to simmer so as not to burn the fish.
2. The burner, though very hot & does coffee percolator quicker than ever, isn't as "jet-like" as compared to my other cheaper, less BTU burners... so, windy condition cooking can still be done, but the flame disappears from the windward side more than lower units I've owned. Make a wind block out of coolers or something if necessary. Also, most of the others I've owned have "dual burner" feature where the flame not only comes out the side around the outside edge of the burner (like you'd imagine), but they also have 8 holes facing up grouped in 2's at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock, making it a more even cooking surface for anything but cast iron. (cast is good all over if given enough time to heat up)
I spend several hours on research on various websites and local stores as it was a matter of fire safety, and eventually bought this product.
Although this stove is much more expensive compared to a lot of similar stoves, but you can feel the quality of the product as soon as you pick it in your hand. We always remove the butane can after every use and its quite easy to remove or install the can in the stove. There are safety features including auto-shut off that I found useful in addressing my concerns. On top of that this stove is also approved for indoor use. Almost none of the single stove on amazon state on their page if they are approved for indoor use - i guess for obvious reasons. Last but not the least, its easier to clean as the plate under the burner comes out easily and can be cleaned with a clothe or washed.
I am satisfied with this purchase and would definitely recommend it.
