J-B Weld HighHeat Epoxy Putty

HighHeat is a hand mixable epoxy putty stick specifically formulated to bond and repair materials that will be exposed to high temperatures in automotive and industrial maintenance applications. It cures to a tough, hard bond with little to no shrinkage. This industrial-strength product outperforms conventional epoxy putties at high temperatures and sets in 1 hour at room temperature. After 8 hours, it can be drilled, tapped, machined, ground, filed and painted. HighHeat is rated at a tensile strength of 800 PSI and cures to a machine grey in color. It is able to withstand continuous heat exposure of 400 degrees F and intermittent heat exposure to 550 degrees F.

The consistency of the epoxy is a very stiff putty. If you are needing to plug a hole or a crack this will probably do OK. But it will not flow to fill any gaps and its adhesive strength on metals is very poor. I used it on various joints consisting of brass, copper and steel. All parts were completely clean and roughened with sandpaper. After fully curing the epoxy sheared off all three metals with only a few foot pounds of torque

I tried it as a temporary fix for a cracked exhaust manifold and it was an utter failure. The reason I even thought this was possible was because it says right on the package "Great for: Exhaust Manifolds." Apparently I misinterpreted that as meaning that it would work on exhaust manifolds. What it actually means I have no idea. Maybe decorative Exhaust manifolds if that is what you're in to? A temperature check on my exhaust manifold read a consistent 780 degrees (It's a Nissan XTerra.) The one positive side is that my car is so ordinary, that it is nearly invisible to humans, but the smoke and burning smell that this produced while cooking off was enough to draw a small crowd to my parking spot. In summary, Terrible at what it says it is "Great For," Great if you crave attention from strangers.

Product works great. I used it to repair a hole in my car's ERG tube that leads from the exhaust manifold to the intake manifold. I'm using it as a temporary fix, but I probably could leave it on for months. It was a little difficult to kneed I don't know why that was so. Maybe it was because of the shelf life before use of the product. That is why I gave the product 4 stars instead of five stars. I let the product set for 24 hours. Even then I turned my car on for thirty minutes then off and waited a few more hours before I drove it normally. I'm not saying you have to do all what I did.
But in my case, even after 24 hours I could put some small indentation in the putty with my finger nails, so I was more careful. (The product is rock solid now.) Humidity and weather must be a factor too. It was cold for a couple of days. My car was in the garage. At any rate use common sense when using this product and factoring in environment factors, such as weather or making sure the surface is clean before applying it.

    The Project: Fixing my grill.
Unfortunately after many years of grilling, the brackets that held the heat plates AND burners were rusted and broke.
The search for an epoxy which could resist high temperatures could not be found at your local Lowes/Home Depot.
Using this Epoxy and improvising with a Stainless Steel nut (yes a ¾: nut), I was able to clue onto the grill wall.
The grill has been used at 450F 5 times, and it has held perfectly.
    Highly recommended.

Purchased this to do a high temperature repair and worked fine. Tested in the oven at 300 degrees for 1/2 hour and no noticeable effects. It was used as a filler so can't comment on strength. Easy to work with. Would cut the end off first to get fresh product though. Its a putty you mix with your fingers and the end appears to have dried out (?) some. JB always makes a good product. Not sure about the max temperature claimed on the product.

Worked well on the gap of my muffler fix. The clamps to hold the new muffler secured the muffler but didn't seal the pipes. This has worked for over a month with no leaks and a quiet sounding 94 Accord.

I used this as directed. I cleaned the two parts and used the product as directed, on surfaces that were recommended. All three areas of application failed to hold. This was at room temp, and not high heat. Unfortunately, this now has cost me many hours of dis-assembly and clean up work so I can re-assemble and do a traditional weld. I should have trusted my gut, and known this products claims were too good to be true. I rarely, if ever write bad reviews, and I'm taking the time to write this one so that others can avoid the same mistake.

Amazon issued me a refund, and is a class act.
