However - it was damaged and scratched up on delivery. Which while probably largely the fault of the fulfill-er on Amazon (MMP Living) also made me question how robust this silverware is.
This is supposed to be 18/10 steel. Yet, it is more highly magnetic than our cheap, $30, 18/8 (or 18/0) cookware. We can put small round magnets on the forks and spoons, stand them upright, and their is enough magnetic steel 1-2 will hold in place, sideways, on the rounded edge. The knife has so much steel we can stack about 20 magnets on top of each other, stand up the knife, they will stay where they are like they were bolted in place. (I took a bunch of pictures of this behavior if anyone wants to see, or doesn't believe me. Let me know below and I'll post them in customer photos).
Google "is 18/10 stainless steel magnetic?" for more info. The "butter believer" site has a good simple explanation.
I'm giving these four stars for now but will update after more wear and use and see how they hold up, and whether or not they pit, oxidize, or corrode over time.
Upon inspecting the "display" silverware (which shows through the front of the packaging), I first noticed how light in weight this flatware feels. It's right on the verge of feeling flimsy like the really cheap stuff. It certainly lacks the weight one would expect at this price. The second red flag was that the back of a few of the forks and spoons had scratches on them - right out of the box! I have to wonder how they will hold up over time if they already have somehow become scratched new in the packaging. Finally, the finishing on the handle edges is really lacking on the underside right where it comes into contact with the palm of ones hand. This creates a sharper edge than one would expect. The top side is smoothed nicely but it appears a manufacturing corner was cut in properly smoothing the underside edge. Completely unacceptable. With all these flaws, it has to go back. A shame since I really love the overall aesthetic and design of this flatware.
