This device extracts the digital audio signal from the HDMI input and converts it to 2 channel analog stereo output or 5.1 channel Audio outputs.

To improve our customers experience, we posted the following three methods if you experience no sound from output.

1. Switch EDID Button

Switch the EDID audio switch in the front. Change it between 2CH, 5CH or pass.

2. Turn Off Dolby Digital Plus

Because TOSLINK (SPDIF) does not support Dolby Digital Plus, you need to turn off Dolby Digital Plus function of the input devices. Then the sound can go through the extractor.

a: Amazon Fire TV or Amazon Fire TV Stick

Settings - Display Sound - Audio - Dolby Digital Output - Dolby Digital Plus off

b: Apple TV

Settings – Audio Video - Dolby Digital - on

c: Chromecast

Chromecast plays the contents from your video source, please make sure to turn off the Dolby Digital Plus on the video source through the play devices.

3: If you use the HDMI to DVI or HDMI to VGA cable for the video, you may experience no audio out. In this case, please use HDMI to HDMI cable for the video.

First of all.. the product does split audio and video. This audio extractor solved my problem.. I could say that not fully because I cannot make it work in 5.1ch.
My setup is: a Chromecast Ultra, home theatre and TV
The problem I had was that I had to connect the Chromecast directly to the TV and couldn't use my home theatre to output audio.. so, this device was what I need to solve the issue.
What I did was, as you may see in the picture, I connected the chromecast to the audio extractor and then connected to the home theatre. It did the job but only if I use the 2CH mode within the audio extractor. I followed seller's suggestions and couldn't make it work in 5.1ch but, as I said earlier, it did allowed to me to watch netflix using the home theatre and not TV speakers.. so yes, I recommend. 3 stars is because it didn't work for me but it does the job in general.
BTW, I gave 5 stars to customer support because they do make you feel important! they're great!

Funciona excelente, sin ningún retraso, no se calienta como otros, lo tengo conectado a un Chromecast 3ra generación, sin ningún problema, J-Tech, como es de esperarse, te lo presenta en buen empaque, instructivo y lo mejor, ya con fuente de alimentación incluida. Tuve una mala experiencia con otro aparato similar que también se vende acá por Amazon, funcionaba cuando quería, y calentaba mi Chromecast.
