This is no longer the original formulation. Somewhere between the end of 2016 and start of 2017, Jack Black changed this product. If you liked the crisp menthol scent and the dense, gritty, scrub of the previous version, you'll not find it here. The exfoliant has changed from what I assume was silica (sand, basically) to bamboo and requires much more time and effort to get a similar level of exfoliation. It also, as some have commented, feels a bit like putting gritty toothpaste on your face because of the minty scent and new texture.
It's not an awful product, it's just no longer the product I was willing to pay extra for because it stood out after years of trying alternatives as the BEST facial scrub I had found. If this formulation is what Jack Black wants to use going forward I can't recommend this product any longer. There are cheaper, better, alternatives to THIS specific formula.
To Jack Black - Bring back the original formula or I'll be moving on. This version just isn't good enough for what you charge. You'll get a few more purchases out of me while I search for something new, but I'm definitely looking. Based on other reviews I've seen, I'm not the only one.

I've been a Jack Black customer for over 5 years. I buy multiple products (including the face buff) multiple times a year and love the line. However, I don't know if I got a bad batch or the formula was changed, because the face buff used to be like fine soft sand and now it's mostly liquid with a few large grains. It's like an entirely different product from the last batch and it does not buff dead skin away like it used to. I'm hoping this was a bad batch and not a formula change because I loved this product. :(

The new updated formula is horrible! This was the best face scrub around until they removed the menthol, replacing it with peppermint. The clean nor the after-tingle is the same. Also, the microbeads have been changed and no longer exfoliate. I don't understand why they had to alter the formula. Definitely lost a customer.
This product now causes breakouts, rather than remediating them. It used to be the best on the market. But they replaced the beads with bamboo dirt. Great for the environment; terrible for your complexion.
I got this for free originally when I worked on set (it was left over from a male actor's beauty kit in his trailer). I LOVE these products-- I know it's for men but this cleanser will wake you up and has a pleasant smell that doesn't really linger past the bath so I don't care if it's sort of "male." I got my dad addicted to their products as well and usually give him a travel set for holidays/birthdays. I have tried the regular face wash too and it's nice/gentle but I think if you had to choose one product to "splurge" on outside of a CVS brand it'd be this exfoliating scrub.
I used to like it quite a bit before the reformulation. The micro-beads were much more effective than its current scrub particles consisting of bamboo powder. However, they were forced to change it due to multiple governments around the world (including US) banning micro-beads for environmental reasons so you can't really blame Jack Black for changing the formula.
Another great product from Jack Black. Lightly scented, non irritating, effective. But contains [polyethylene] microplastic beads. Minus one star for that.
