I decided against the Bose since it can’t pair with a second speaker for a stereo setup, is slightly older, doesn’t look as attractive (quite a dated look in fact) and the sound quality reviews do not put it above the other two.
Then I couldn’t decide between the UE and JBL, so purchased both. I compared them side-by-side for a week with the following observations:
1) Batteries on both last for a ridiculously long time. Yes, JBL lasts longer, but the 15 hour battery on UE is a week of regular use. What other electronics do you charge so rarely?
2) Both speakers are very loud. Assuming you’re not hosting an actual dance party, it would be surprising for either to run out of volume. JBL stays composed all the way to the max, maybe keep UE one notch above the very max on the bass-heavy songs.
3) UE has crisper high and mid frequencies, while JBL has a deeper, bigger bass. It took me a week to decide that this constitutes a tie for me, but most people would likely prefer the bigger bass of the JBL. Also, UE gives you the 360 sound, which is quite neat: you can put it in the middle of the room rather than against a wall. This could work as an effective sound multiplier since you reduce the distance to people if using it in a group.
I compared both to a single Sonos 1 speaker (much heavier and non-portable), and Sonos is significantly better across the entire frequency range than either UE or JBL. This is not to say that that UE or JBL produce low quality sound: they both sound surprisingly good for their size. My point is that we shouldn’t obsess with the sound quality comparison between the two because neither is close to being a reference sound device.
4) Size is important here. JBL is over 50% larger than the UE, which makes a huge difference. Please see the photos: the JBL is longer, wider and heavier than the UE. This was the main factor in declaring UE the winner by a good margin. The speakers are roughly tied before the size comes into play, and the UE is just a lot smaller. I am simply more likely to take it with me when travelling.
5) Other features. Both speakers are waterproof. Charge 3 will charge your phone, which is not exactly useless, but probably not a deciding feature. UE feels much sleeker design-wise, with fewer buttons and better symmetry.
To summarize: JBL Charge 3 is a great speaker, worthy of a 5 star rating. However, for my preferences, UE Boom 2 was the clear winner given its much more compact size and neater design due to them being close to tied in other areas, including sound quality.

I was a bit surprised to receive a used item. The clear seal outside the box was not even there, it was just open. The unit has clear signs of wear. It's obvious that it was either a returned item or an open box as the cable wasn't even in the individual packaging. The unit doesn't have the foam liner protector. The box has rips in and out. I know all of this as I already own one and was looking to purchase a second unit.
Seller 1Click Tech has good reviews and a few negative in their profile page but didn't realize I would be the "lucky" winner. Returned it same day it was received. Very disappointed experience overall.
UPDATE: Apr 4/19 - 1ClickTech seller has removed my negative review in their store feedback. In fact, they removed every other negative reviews leaving them with a 99% positive rating!! WOW just WOW.
After almost 2 years this speaker is still as good as the day I got it. It's been to hell and back, dropped off the roof of my truck onto concrete, left outside overnight while camping multiple times (once in winter and it got covered completely in snow. Completely submerged in water a few times and dropped from my hands countless times. Whatever you do to it, it keeps going. The battery still lasts as long as when I got it and it sounds just as good. Has some dirt in the mesh and some fade from the sun but doesn't matter it keeps on going. This speaker gets used on a daily basis and usually at 3/4 volume. You can't go wrong with this thing I will be buying another if this one ever breaks which I can't see happening.
This thing will not let you down no matter what you do to it I bring it fishing with me then into the shower use it in everything I do. Wherever I am I have a speaker I can count on to keep playing. The main advantage of having this is the battery, it's outrageous how long it lasts I've never actually killed it completely and Ive used it 3 8 hour days straight (around 1/4-3/4) and it still had three bars left! The sound quality is equally amazing, super loud and a good amount of bass. Overall don't waste your time with cheap brands as you will get what you pay for and I think that in this case the amount I paid was 100% worth it.
I am still very pleased with this speaker and like the "new" sound even better now. I must admit though, that there are times that I miss that extreme base a little. I liken it to driving a dragster in the city. It's a lot of fun to play with but , after a while , it becomes annoying.
I only rate 5 stars if something blows away my expectations. Don't let the fact that this speaker is rated 4 starts sway you. It has been everything I could have hoped for!
I got this speaker after trying two separate JBL flip4"s and A Blackweb (from Walmart) and listening to many, many Bluetooth speakers. Including Bose Soundlink 2, UE Boom, and just about anything in store that I could listen to.
The Charge 3 , in my opinion, fits my needs the best.
The Flip 4's were very treble oriented and (curiously) one didn't sound the same as the other. I ordered two separately to take advantage of a lower price on Amazon. Thus returning the other. The second one sounded worse?! But neither fit the bill.
The blackweb (purchased at Wally world) isn't even in the conversation! It has no Bass and the treble is terrible! But I think I paid 30$ for it , so yeah I can see the problem.
The Charge is the only other speaker I've listened to in my home.(the rest were in store).
For my taste it is a wonderful speaker full of rich Bass and controlled highs that aren't quite as bright as I'd like , but are waaaaay better than a "Too Bright" speaker (see Flip4) that hurts your ears with sharp crashes of sound. The Mids are OK for my type of music.
If you want an idea of the type of music this speaker shines on, listen to the following.
'Lola And Joseph' by July Talk
'Show biz kids' by Rickie Lee Jones
'Blood in the cut' By K.Flay
If these are songs and sounds that appeal to you, then this is the speaker for you!
I'm sure it would shine for Rap and HipHop also.
All in all, I'm quite pleased with this speaker and the fact that it floats in water helped seal the deal. Water rafting here I come!
However, as soon as my speaker was delivered I tested it and it sounded very mediocre. Nothing stood out, bass is less than google home, vocal clarity is far below UE roll. It does get loud but for me it wasn't fun due to its underwhelming sound? Its not a cheap speaker, I was expected much better sound.
After listening for an hour, I decided to return it and never to trust online reviews and videos.
Loved the speaker but found really annoyed with the warranty procedures where the mails are diverted and diverted upto to the nuisance level. I loved the speaker when it didn’t had this problem.
This portion is included after 5 weeks from the issue reported to happened. I had to call and verify the issue through various sources which where mentioned on the box.
I came across Mr JIm Baker who helped me throughout the process on receiving my New Speaker.
I bought this one to take out for family partys, It has a more neutral sound for general music (pop, rock, etc)
its a great product, maybe you can find some comparison between Bose Sound link II and this one.
There are a lot of Fanboys on both sides.. just follow your heart and ears
Imágene. Charge 3 y flip 3
The sound is great and full, and the build quality is excellent... it feels very solid in your hand... NOT Fugoo Tough solid, but very solid nonetheless.
