The bass is rich and warm.
The mids are clear and pronounced.
The highs are bright and well defined.
The Battery Life
This is an all day speaker at normal listening levels. (Keeping the volume high for long periods will sap the battery faster)
They pulse quite excitedly to the music. This is most evident with beat driven EDM.
It's small. The size of a 20 oz drink bottle.
The surface of the speaker is very nice to touch and doesn't seem to attract fingerprints to much.
Ease of Use
Setting up BlueTooth is easy.
Anything below 80 Hz suffers.
The very low bass is there but weak, I can only assume JBL had to put in an internal crossover to prevent the little speakers from getting damaged by the low tones.
This won't effect most people unless you are a fan of West Coast rap.
Lack of Port Covers
All three ports on the back (USB Out, AUX In, USB In) are all exposed to the elements.
Due to this, all of the world's dust will find it's way into these ports.
While the feature is neat, they are very exposed in that they are only recessed about a half inch (~2CM) making them very prone to getting damaged.
If not placed on a level surface it could easily roll off.
It is remarkably loud for its size and has excellent sound clarity! Surprisingly low bass response! I am blown away by how much this thing puts out for its size, and the quality of the sound is astounding. The battery lasts long enough to play walking around for quite a while...
I have a NOCO 12000mAh battery that I use to charge the speaker and my iPhone 5 at the same time... I walked around for 8 hours yesterday, when I got home both the speaker and my phone were at 100% and my battery was at 50%. I'm stoked. The first time I went out with this setup, the speaker fell from my backpack! A little scuff, but no biggie! The thing is pretty solid but I wouldn't recommend doing that too much. I have the speaker more securely fastened now, it is just barely the same size as the straps on the bottom of my old Da Kine Nomad hydration pack.
Wow, this little speaker (our first Bluetooth speaker) blows me away. I bought it as a Christmas present for my wife. She loves it - so do I :-).
Obviously this speaker doesn't compare to our home theater/stereo system but it produces great sound considering it's size and the fact that the signal is transmitted over Bluetooth. The highs are crisp like most JBLs and the base is decent - very good actually considering how "tiny" this thing is. Some reviewer claim to hear distorted sound at low volumes but I can't say I noticed any. But then again, we never really used this speaker at very low volume. So far we tried it in the family room/kitchen area, backyard and bathroom while taking a shower, etc. and all of those generally require a decent volume (40/50% and up).
One thing to point out is that the Charge 2 does not seem to produce stereo sound. It sounds like it has a single speaker in the front and the sides are completely passive. However, once you stand more then 2 feet away none of that really matters. This speaker fills the room with great sound either way. The Bluetooth range is also not giving us any problems. Our house isn't too large but 30-50 feet don't seem to be an issue depending on the number of walls in between.
So far the charge seems to last a long time. We didn't push it yet, however, on Christmas day we were blasting music thru the house with it all day (I'd say 7-8 hours) and it still had decent charge at the end of the day. I should mention that I fully charged it a few days earlier before wrapping it up. The included charger and USB cable match the color of the speaker - ours was purple - much to my wife's delight.
We have not tried the speaker phone functionality to I can't speak to that at all.
Also, I swear it sounds better with my wife's iPhone than my Samsung Galaxy but I might be imagining that.
I had a Soundfreaq Sound Kick which was okay, that broke (impact, not quality related), so I did some research, this was a good price and had good reviews. As usual with small speakers like this (its about the size of a travel coffee mug if that helps) you usually can't expect them to be super loud, or have much bass.
That is NOT the case with this thing. The entire unit is one big bass chamber, the two metal side plates are actually bass resonators - it has real bass you can feel and yes, it will fills up the entire downstairs of my 2400 sq ft house with sound with no problems, much less a room. Very clear bass, and separated mid/high range so its not the usual "small speaker with lots of bass but its muddy" - this sounds great.
If you are thinking about getting a Bluetooth speaker or upgrading and existing one - this is the one you want. 12 hours at least of run time, pairs with everything I've tried it with (Macbook Pro, HTC M8 Phone, iPhone, Galaxy 6) and up to 3 users can connect to it at once (which I haven't tried yet how that works). Price is good as well I've seen this for as low as $99 and its a STEAL at that price.
One note, get a carrying case for it if you take it anywhere, the end bass resonators might get damaged in transit in a backpack full of stuff, so keep that in mind and spend the extra $10 or whatever and get one.
