Enjoy high quality audio from a variety of devices including the iPod, iPod mini, MP3 and CD players, desktop computers (all platforms), laptops, and most portable devices. The JBL On Tour combines many proprietary technologies to provide the highest quality sound and playing time. The On Tour will provide astonishing bass and clear, accurate sound from a pocket-sized system. The two aluminum domed transducers are driven by powerful Neodymium magnets. This design provides a full, rich frequency response from the lowest bass to the highest highs. Signal-to-noise ratio is greater than 80dB. Voltage input is 100-230 VAC, 50-60 Hz, for use around the world.
From the Manufacturer
The JBL On Tour is a compact, lightweight, high performance portable sound system. Connected to your iPod, MP3 player, laptop or other music source, the JBL On Tour will provide hours of clean, powerful sound. JBL On Tour runs on 4 AAA batteries or with an AC adapter. With a protective cover and compact size, you can easily go on the road and let your iPod or MP3 player rock out in your room.
The stereo mini jack connection allows you to enjoy high quality audio from a variety of devices such as iPod, iPod mini, MP3 and CD players, desktop computers (all platforms), laptops and most portable devices.
Touch Volume Control--Just a touch increases or decrease the volume. A touch on both pads mutes or un-mutes the system. JBL On Tour also remembers your last volume setting even after the system shuts down.
Integrated protective Cover and Stand. The sliding cover protects your sound system and serves as a stand when open. The surface gripping rubber feet provide a stable platform on most surfaces. A universal AC adapter allows for easy worldwide use. An audio input cable is also included.
Advanced Technology The JBL On Tour combines many proprietary technologies to provide the highest quality sound and playing time. The JBL On Tour will provide astonishing bass and clear accurate sound from a pocket sized system.
- Digital Amplifier Technology--The Class D digital amplifiers provide clean, powerful sound while extending battery life.
- Odyssey Transducers--The two aluminum domed transducers are driven by powerful Neodymium magnets. This design provides a full rich frequency response from the lowest bass to the highest highs.
- COE (Computer Optimized Equalization)--The JBL On Tour system equalization was computer optimized to provide a rich, complete sound stage.
- AEMS (Advanced Energy Management System)--The JBL On Tour system has an automatic battery saving shutoff. The AEMS will automatically put the system into sleep mode when the cover is closed or when there is no audio input. The JBL On Tour awakens with just a touch and resumes at the same volume level when the cover is opened or the input resumes.
- Battery Powered--The JBL On Tour is designed to use most types of AAA batteries. Four fresh AAA batteries provide over 24 hours of continuous play at normal to high listening levels. An amber LED flashes when the battery protection circuit senses the batteries are low. JBL encourages the use of rechargeable types of batteries (i.e. NiMH and Lithium). These batteries reduce waste and help the environment.

This little powerhouse gave me excellent *daily* sound for a little over six years - and I only stopped using it after (sadly) dropping it from a height and breaking the case badly. I've tried other manufacturers' products - several - in the past few months, but I've learned my lesson and am in the process of purchasing another JBL portable speaker system as I finish typing this!
The overall sound, the range, and even the fact it didn't eat ALL my batteries for breakfast contributed to my highly-enthusiastic review - it's a powerhouse in a tiny package!
Definitely worth every penny.
I got it at a really good price as a daily deal item. The product is everything good that the the other reviewers have written about it. It's a bit on the small size, but it has an amazing sound range for how tiny it is. I have tried it with my iPod and my laptop and both delivered solid sound. They are not "concert hall" quality speakers, so don't expect thumping bass or a huge volume range.
PRODUCT QUALITY: *****
The packaging of the product is entirely another issue. When I read a couple of other reviews complaining about the tough plastic packaging, I just thought they were complainers and that it was encased in the run-of-the-mill plastic bubble with the sealed edge that is so common these days. Well, I was wrong. This was the most difficult to open product packaging that I have EVER encountered! I gave up trying to use fairly heavy scissors to cut through the plastic and resorted to an X-Acto knife which did not make the job much easier. Further, it is stamped with the PET recycling symbol which means it is recyclable, but this still is not very green since not everyone recycles. I think that the manufacturer over compensated the need for protecting this product on the boat ride from China!
Since this is a product review, I won't deduct from my overall rating because of the packaging. Just be aware that you need to take extra care when you cut it open to not injure yourself OR damage the product.
Of course, they are no replacement for a serious sound system. However, if you want to have decent-quality sound for your music or podcasts while traveling, this set is for you.
I bring it with me when traveling mainly because I find the quality of my laptop speakers insufficient, especially at the low end. At home, I use a larger set of Creative speakers with a sub-woofer hooked up to the laptop, but this little JBL unit gives those speakers a run for the money.
These are not going to give you bass that will shake the room, but there is enough bass to give music as well as spoken-word podcasts a surprising and pleasing richness and depth.
It comes with a carrying bag, which is nice, but it would be even nicer if the bag were big enough to hold the AC adapter as well -- that is my only complaint. As it is, the adapter must be packed separately -- bad for absent-minded types like me. A big plus for international travelers is that the AC adapter takes power in the 110-240V range, so you only need a plug adapter, not a transformer, to use it in countries with different power standards.
I got these speakers on sale in a Gold Box special for $35, and I've seen them on sale for about that price a few times since then. You might want to hold out until that price or something similar rolls around again. I felt that especially at that price this purchase was a real bargain, though really they are probably worth more as well. Highly recommended!
When purchased you will receive the speakers, an AC adapter, a cord for audio from a standard headphone jack into the JBL On Tour, and a carrying bag. The carrying bag fits the JBL snugly but not the accessory cords. When not in use the black cover that doubles as a stand (the thing to the right of the speakers in the picture), slides easily over the speakers to protect them and shrink the product.
In my experience you can get about 2.5-3 hours of listening when on battery power.
The unit is small enough (about 7x4 in) to fit in a backpack.
I use this outside when doing yardwork, easily loud enough to fill the whole yard or garage. It's great to take along on trips so that I can listen to music in hotel rooms.
In summary, the JBL On Tour, because of its better-than-expected sound quality exceeds the expectations I had when purchasing it. I would purchase again in a heartbeat if anything ever happened to mine.

-Loud enough for it size. Decent sound and base. Certainly louder than my Creative TravelSound 400 Portable Speaker System.
-Love the slide cover design
-Unlike the Creative Travelsound, the speakers have grills to protect it.
-Rubber footing prevents it from sliding off the table.
-Battery compartment is somewhat difficult to place and remove batteries. Opening the compartment is also not a piece of cake.
-Awkward placement of the power input and audio jack. You have to unplug both to close the lid.
-one of the toughest bubble product case I have struggled opening. Be careful cutting your fingers.
-batteries not included
