NOTE: You should NOT run your television's power cable through the wall. You should really run a new outlet to hide behind the television. Running the power cable through the wall is against building codes and is unsafe.
The sound of the speakers is considerably better than the Polk system I was using before I bought these. The larger speakers have a cleaner and more open sound than the small satellite speakers of the Polk Audio RM705 system I replaced. The sound is better. There are no exposed wires. The look is clean. You cannot beat it.
The product is of high quality and packaged well.
I wanted to clean up the look while upgrading the sound. These did both.
The in wall speakers are much cleaner looking and have decluttered the wall where they were installed and brought a much more modern look to my entertainment center.
Installation was pretty easy. You'll need a drywall saw assuming you are installing these in previous construction.
The set comes with a template that you trace on the wall where you want to install and cut out the hole with the dry wall saw. The speakers have simple to use screws already built in that clamp into space when you are ready to secure.
Tear speakers both improved the sound and look of our entertainment center. I'm glad I purchased them.
To install, use the included cardboard templates to cut a hole in your wall (I used the Stanley 20-556 6-Inch FatMax Jab Saw to cut the hole), run the speaker wire through your wall to the hole, connect the wire, then push in the speaker and tighten the four screws until they hold the speaker firmly in place. Note that you will need to make the holes in-between studs, otherwise the speaker won't go in!
I use these speakers as rear channel L/R for my 5.1 surround setup, and they give a very full sound, with distinct highs. They don't give a whole lot of low-end, but if you want that, buy a decent subwoofer.
Since they're in the wall, I was worried that (a) the sound would be affected negatively, and (b) the adjoining room would get some muffled noise. Well, the sound is slightly worse than a bookshelf speaker of the same size (that's what I use for my front L/R), but not too noticably. And the adjoining room does get a tiny bit of bleed-through, but it's not distracting, since sound from all the speakers passes through the hall as well! To resolve that problem, try installing the speakers on an external wall, or a wall that adjoins an unoccupied room.
