i got my first unit on clearance at a walmart and liked it so much i purchased another one from amazon for another car.
my 5yo unit has been in 3 different cars, and survived a rain storm with the windows left down.
i loved that it had an SD slot, USB port, AUX, HD radio(you really can tell a difference), and played MP3/WMA CDs.
the interface is very easy to use and it is quite user friendly.
the only thing i can think of that would make it better would be if it supported Bluetooth and had a remote
i cant speak for every unit, but i know the 2 i had are great.
There are some downsides - the radio controls light up a post-apocalyptic radioactive cobalt blue which is actually pretty cool at dusk but is a little overwhelming in full darkness. The display can be dimmed, but the dial lights can't be which is pretty useless. That's especially ironic as the display is hard to see on a bright day and quite invisible in direct sunlight. Sound quality overall is decent, nothing special but quite acceptable to the average person. The buttons on the radio are very small and hard to distinguish to my 53 year old eyes, but that's a problem with a lot of electronics these days. I think the biggest issue is the HD radio in fringe areas - HD broadcasts are weaker by nature and while the radio will switch back and forth between HD and analog automatically, it can get annoying if it's constant. Worse, some stations will cause a loud screeching sound as they waver between HD and analog - there is a button on the radio to toggle between analog/digital/automatic but the button only works if the radio detects a digital signal. I guess the idea is that you shouldn't be selecting digital when there isn't a strong digital signal but it also means that if you leave it on automatic (which you should) you can't select analog just when you need it the most and you have to put up with the screeching until the signal gets strong enough that the analog select button works - but now you don't need it because the signal is strong enough. Not well thought out.
Last things, it does not come with a remote control (which is not that big of a deal) nor can it accept an aftermarket kit to interface with steering wheel controls if you have them (which is a bigger deal).
I bought a new car a month ago and had pulled this radio out of my old car before trading it in. I found that I missed the features enough that I ended up pulling the factory unit out of a brand new car and using this radio instead.
Everything else seems to work great except that this radio is much more prone to power line interference than most radios. In fact the interference is so annoying, I bought an antenna noise filter and installed it. The AM radio is 98% better, now. You would think that the designers would add a 50 cent coil to the radio so it wouldn't be so annoying.
UPDATE: Just like review "Worst radio ever", after 1 1/2 years old mine did a similar thing. I would have to hit buttons repeatedly or some buttons hit would do other things or the eject would act up by itself. The reliability isn't very good; that's why I went from 4 stars to 2 stars.
